Is uk to sa poss on a busa?
Hello.
Excuse my ignorance. Is there a semblance of a route uk to cape town doable by road bike? in this case a hayabusa or is it completely out of the question? thanks |
Apart from a 300 miles stretch in northern Kenya when you can put your bike on a lorry if you want, there is now tarmac all the way. The thing that might be difficult are side trips to places of interest along gravel or sand roads but basically yes you can do it without too much difficulty.

As the post above indicates it's doable but you would have a much better time of it on a cheap trail bike, even a 350-400cc would be a better ride and can take you to more places. There are even some good twisty's and decent roads, but you can't trust what's around the corner to put your knee down.
One of the biggest off's I had in Africa was on a straight road in perfect condition in Egypt. There was diesel all over the new tarmac and I never saw it, one moment enjoying the day, nek minnit wondering WTF just happened? Free camping would be almost out of the question as trying to access good spots would be almost impossible with that monster bike. Getting to Africa would be a lot more fun though... Just my 2 cents. Not out of the question, but not recommended. A few intrepid souls have made the journey though. A few years back, I rode down the east coast and rode for a fair while with couple of gents who were on Ducati 1050 Multistradas. They rode them like dual sports though and as Cam mentioned, you'd have a better time on a trail bike or a true dual sport.
On the other side, a couple of years back I ran into a fearless Finn in Angola who had ridden his R1 down the west coast. It's upping the adventure quotient if that's what you are looking for, but really they are both dual sport routes, with the west having much less good roads than the east. |
Capable = Yes, Suitable = No

Thanks again Gents.
