It is a strange world
Hi everyone.
When i decided to take up riding again, I searched through the DVLA's database to try to find my old 1961 Triumph. but it hadn't been on file for many years and I assumed it had been scrapped. I haven't seen or heard of it for over 50 years. Today I got an email from my brother in Australia. It contained a picture of a bike with the message " If I remember right you had a bike like this back in the 60's" so later on skype I confirmed Yes it is the same colour Yes it was a Triumph 500 twin so all was well. Then I added "It also has the same registration number" It IS my bike not just like it. Turns out an ex workmate of his has restored it. But it isn't in Australia.. oh no, but just 2 or three miles from where I used to live back in Cornwall. Still not on the DVLA's database though. I just couldn't believe my old bike was still alive and well. Wonder if it is for sale http://www.forumcircle.com/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif |
Man, that's well Twilight Zone! You gotta somehow wrangle a ride on it, see if she remembers you :)

It's fate, fate I tell you.
I wonder what the odds are of that happening ? Yes I'd contact the owner, but I may try and be a bit cagey as if you let on that you owned it once upon a time then the price may well go up. But there again you could just say you aren't interested in buying it, but out of interest what would it be worth now ? I'm sure you'll manage, and please report back. <edit> So are you based in the UK, or even close to your old bike, and is visiting it a viable option ? |
will be close to it september time, possibly october. so hope to go see it.

On a similar theme about 25 years ago I bought a Triumph 500 which had the cylinder head removed for overhaul and repair. I took it to a local fabricator to have a broken lug welded back on and when I told him what bike it was from he said "I had one of those new in 1968, the registration number was NDV1G" To which I replied "well I own it now and that is the head off of it". Small world.

Mark, yes sometimes coincidences beggar belief.
Once we had a guest here when we ran a BnB, She asked who was in a photo on the wall. it was our daughter in law. Turns out they were both nurses from the same hospital. This was my bike when the guy bought it in 1975 As you can see, lots of work done. http://our-site.me.uk/bike/images/Tr...9lybbefore.jpg |
