Less than a month to the start of the Tourist Trophy 2014!

One year ago I was glad to have the opportunity to be there for the first time of my life and to have a chat with this "GUY"

Just by being close to him I could feel the adrenaline rush...

Some in the paddock said that he is supposed to be one of the race's fastest riders....do you agree? ;)

Alessandro I have been there many times and had indeed a ticket for the ferry this year but decided to sell it and not go.
I would say to anyone that has never been that you must go at least once but for me now I would rather spend the money that the ferry costs on a train ticket over to France and spend a couple of nights there for the same price of the Steam Packet Ferry.
Because I have been that often I now have a friend on the Island who lets me stay with her and I now prefer to go over when there is no racing for a fraction of the cost and I am able to enjoy the car free roads by myself.
That's not to say that I don't enjoy the tv coverage of the TT either.

Never been and never likely to go. Back in the early days it always coincided with exam time and the lottery aspect of buying an overpriced ticket on a WW2 vintage cattle boat to get there didn't appeal. I could have a month in Greece for the price of a week of grease burgers and watered down beer in Ramsey.

These days the prospect of spending a week at a "bikerfest" appeals even less. It feels more like the sort of thing you'd be sentenced to rather than something I'd want to do - a kind of Alcatraz with motorcycles. And it's not even as if you could get time off for good behaviour; being on an island once you're there, you're stuck there.

I suppose there is an arguement that says don't knock if you haven't been, to which I would say fine, if it floats your boat you go and tell me all about it when you get back. I'll be down in the Alps or somewhere.

the TT is a stunning event and one that all bikers should experience at least once in their lifetime.

I was there as a 16 year old in 1978, when Mike Hailwood made his return to the Isle and won.

I was there in 1984 when Geoff Johnson won the proddy TT on a Kawasaki GPZ900R and spent the night, in our hotel with him getting absolutely blathered!

I was a guest of Suzuki GB in 2007, when John McGuinness broke the lap record at an average, yes AVERAGE speed of 130.354 mph. I was sat on the wall at Creg-ny-Baa when you heard the news on the TT Radio that the record had been broken and the cheer was incredible.

Guy Martin is a true biking character and I would absolutely love it if he won a replica this year.

Yes, Guy is without doubt one of the quicker riders but he seems to be unlucky a lot too. More than anything he is a superb bloke with a real zest for life. Some might call him mental but all will agree he is entertaining.

Who on earth have you been talking to or what have you read to give you this distortred opinion? And you are joking about comparing a week at the TT with a month in Greece arn't you?

Reggie, you mean wins a race, Guy, when he finishes usually gets 'replicas', thats replicas of the winning trophy.

I'm not into road racing or track stuff, so I wasn't too sure what to expect when I went to the Isle if Man for the TT but it was an incredible experience on so many levels. Interestingly I'd been nagged into going by a Brit bike traveller whilst we were riding together in S America.

So what was it about the TT that makes me urge everyone to go...
from the buzz at the ferry waiting to get on, the sight of the "car" deck just filled with row upon row of bikes, the atmosphere on the island itself- I can honestly say I have never experienced such a bike-friendly place.
the sheer number of bikes on the island - surely they outnumber the cars during that week?

I didn't find the island too crowded or expensive, I made lots of new friends, I rode the course, I enjoyed the races and I honestly can't think of a single negative about the whole experience.

Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against the TT and fairly obviously many many people go each year and love it but somehow its never worked its magic on me - or not enough for me to want to run the gauntlet of ferries, BnBs etc that friends who went (many) years ago complained endlessly about afterwards. I suppose I just picked up on the problems but I've never been that big on racing so there wasn't enough on the up side to compensate.

I suspect had it been somewhere that didn't involve the supply and demand ferry palaver I probably would have gone and may now be expounding its virtues but that wouldn't be the TT. C'est la vie. It's all just my opinion and without the experience of having gone, worth nothing.

The Greece thing came from one of the few times I did consider going but fell at the first hurdle when all the ferries were booked up (it was a long time ago). The money I was expecting to spend just about covered my share of a bike trip to Greece. Ok it was a very rudimentary trip - rough camping and lose a stone in weight - but the costs were not far apart.

Can I come to Greece 4 times with you please!!! :blushing:

I'm going for first time. Silly really as I live in Australia and its a wee bit far away for me. Then again, I thought, bugger it!.

Daft thing, I left Scotland 20 years ago and had plenty of opportunities to go then. I appreciate sports bikes so let me at it.

Too late to take the bike but I've managed to find a hire place that charges like a wounded bull, what the hell I'd hate to be there without bike :)

Gonna be pushing DVD sales somehow .. still to work that one out!

The ferry's are old tubs.

They are fecking expensive.

The weather can be a bit crap.

But, where else in the world can you....

sit on a dry-stone wall with a pint in your hand as race bikes pass 3ft away at 200mph.

overtake a police car at 130mph and he pulls up next to you in a pub car park and says "You having fun then boys ?, keep safe"

My advice would be if you can, go a bit before the races and come back a bit after. The ferries are cheaper and you can get some cracking trail-riding or touring in.

I went by road bike last time but would be on a trailie for my next visit.

I'm not usually a 'racing person'.

I enjoyed it. Would Oi go again? Yes .. but I'd go for 3 weeks jeiger. To avoid the crowed ferry .. and to experience the Isle with a few less people. But still experience the friendly crowds, locals and strange unsafe street racing. :funmeteryes:

I think any motorcyclist should go at least once.
