does anyone know if a credit card type log book is availabale in the uk

Nope. I've certainly never seen one. And considering the ammount of information thats on it, I would doubt it would be possible.
If your off travelling, do copies of your key documents, I normaly have a couple of copies of V5, MOT, insurance.

Never seen anything like that on our travels in the Americas (currently in Colombia). I have the original V5, some copies and if everything gets stolen some scans in OneDrive.

Also consider "losing" your original and getting a replacement. Costs £25 but you never know when you might need it on the road. I know our original, after being through North, Central and now South America is getting a bit scruffy. It's no longer possible to read the engine number because it sits right on one of the folds. At borders they always want to see the originals and they know what they should look like.
