Looks like another The Long Way series is coming
 

Was just flipping through the social media feeds this afternoon and came across a post linking back to a Tweet by Charley Boorman this week stating that Long Way Up is in the works. There was also a photo with the Dave, Russ and Ewan. So perhaps this is going to be it.

I know there's a lot of division about the Long Way series, but I'm excited to see this one happening. These two guys inspired me to think about motorcycle travel over a decade ago.

Considering the advancements in cameras and now drones, I'd imagine that this one will be fantastic to watch.

Well let's hope they choose a more suitable motorcycle this time. :blushing:

Agreed. But there's a reason why beemers are one of the most popular travelers and it has nothing to do with Obi-wan [emoji1]. Yes, the 1200 GSA was super-heavy and cumbersome for the offroading parts they did but the F800/850 with a bit of suspension work would be close to ideal IMHO [emoji41]. On the other hand, if BMW is sponsoring the bikes they would want to show off their "Flagship" because at the end of the day, money talks [emoji16]

I haven't followed these guys in a while, but the last time I heard Charley Boorman was an ambassador for Triumph. Given how they usually ride flagship bikes for their trips, I would imagine Tiger 1200s would be the bikes.

As for bike choice. Who cares? It's not your trip, your money or your time. Let people ride what they want. We're all enthusiasts. Does it really matter to you personally if they rode Goldwings or 250s?

Those guys can of course do whatever they want with exactly the vehicles of their choice (sponsors), 100 % up to them for sure.
I would however never do an overland trip with a 1200 cc bike and 3 support vehicles and 6 cameras. So it would be very little interesting to watch such a series. Maybe to learn how it not should be done....

When you are paid shit loads of money to do a trip? Does one have to consider who is doing right?

It's apparent that the various TV series have created--in the mind of the viewing public, which seems to include almost everyone on the face of the planet--a wholly inaccurate view of "adventure motorcycling." Maybe that's ok, but I find it irritating, and I get tired of responding to people who insist on seeing me in a certain light or explaining at excessive length why I should really make a point of watching the TV series.

On the other hand, if I'm spending a lot of time being offended by the whole phenomenon, I can only conclude that I'm allowing Charlie and Ewan take up residency in my brain and run my life. Who needs that?

And i'll watch it just like everyone else who says they won't.

Lets just hope they've read the feedback from the last trips.

A lot of their last trips were faked. Pretending to camp when they didn't etc. Faked solo sections when they we're chaperoned etc. They lost a lot of respect. But due to Ewan being such a prize for kidnappers, it will be a Saga Tour.

No doubt they will be sponsored to death too. So expect them on the new 1250GSA with 500 KG of luggage and more technology strapped to them than a CyberGoth on a space station. I can hear the buzz of drones already. lol.

I know where you're coming from and it was my first thought as well. It was only a bit later that I thought "the bikes didn't ride themselves" and maybe it was a good advertisement for our community.

A few years back 'Long Way Up' was penciled in as Tierra del Fuego to Alaska.

I welcome another trip; by humanising those behind the Darth Vader helmets it changed forever the general public's perception that bikers were thugs. Similar comment for Hairy Bikers.

Yes, it would be nice if the filming was a bit more honest but that's TV for you. Don't really care which marque of bike they ride.
