Uber-Moto 13 Jan 2010 19:11

By the way.... anyone planning to ride TLH this year?

I'm definitely game to ride!!!

Motoaxe 13 Jan 2010 19:19

Trans Labrador?....that may be a plan but I would want to include Nfld...never been there yet.

Uber-Moto 13 Jan 2010 19:24

FYI... I've just taken payment for my bike.

She's officially sold.

.....now, the slow and steady search begins for a set of replacement(s):

2009 KTM 690R Enduro
2007-2009 KTM 950SE (maybe)
2007-2009 KTM Adventure 990 (maybe)

OR

KTM 450 EXCW / 530 / 525 / (must be blue plated)
+
BMW r1150r or Rockster
Suzuki V-Strom 650/1000
Honda VFR800 (with full luggage set-up)
Harley Davidson Electra-Glide.... :mchappy:

Mike... NFLD is a definite MUST if we're doing the TLH - makes for a great loop.

1.5 weeks should be enough time - no!?

Motoaxe 13 Jan 2010 19:29

mentioned this before......

Arent you hesitant about the FI versions of the LC8's?? Peter has spent a ton of dough getting his smoothed out but has maintained that he'd take a carbed model over his any day....

Haha, sold it before it granaded eh! Good choice, and if my opinion means anything the 450/something else combo is a weiner.

You should call Peter on this one... I am going flying all weekend with him this weekend..... It'll give us lots o time to discuss it while I get all pissed up in the back seat! You gonna be anywhere on the sled this weekend? We will be on skis and can put er down just about anywhere on a lake eh!

That's probably doable although 2 weeks would be better.

3 weeks if you're on a 450!

Maybe early August?

I'll be skiing at Alpine this Saturday (next to Blue Mountain). Back in London for some sledding on Sunday (near St. Thomas).

Ron,
Having finally pulled the trigger on selling my bike - it's tempting to get a new version of it (I really love the KTM Adventure). But, the ability to replace it with two bikes (covering the full dirt and touring spectrum) was and is the final goal here. So, I'll make it a priority to focus my efforts on finding two worthy replacements. The 990 might be on the radar again in 5 years time - maybe they'll have it ironed out by then.

In fact, maybe KTM will have a 690 Adventure by then.

August sounds good. Let's circle back later this year.
Also, I plan to have a decent touring bike by that time - so the pace will not be a problem.

When are we meeting up for some food...... I'm HUNGRY!!!!!!

KTMike 13 Jan 2010 19:59

Wow...you're on a roll Uber. 25 posts and you're not banned yet

Now's the time to look for a new steed...prices always jump when the snow melts and don't forget about that silly HST, whenever that kicks in. It'll affect you if you're buying private.

Ohhh, just thinking. Maybe its best you give the cash you get for your bike to one of us for safe keeping or it could end up being spent on a ring :nono:

Uber-Moto 13 Jan 2010 21:21

RallyRaid Ontario 2010 details/ideas:

-NAVIGATIONAL RALLY-

The route will be made up of a series of waypoints. At each waypoint there's a marker with a code. Each rider must locate the marker and write down the code (yes, with a pen and paper).

The waypoints will be in order, following them will reveal the route. The challenge is to spot all the markers. Thus, it's not a race. The winner will be he/she who spots all the markers. The emphasis is on precision and accuracy, not speed.

To prevent tie's, some markers will be placed amongst difficult terrain. Hence, not everyone will find them - thus, an alternate route around that area will be used as an option-out route. Also, there will be a time limit. Say, 6pm. So, people will have to strike a balance between finding as many markers as possible and making it back on time. As such, the route will be a loop. If a waypoint is missed, all is not lost - the next waypoint will keep you on track.

As for the event itself, a campground will act as the staging area (the location is yet to be determined). To take part in the event will be free; camping and food will be separate.

If you haven’t heard the news yet. It’s true, the Dakar is moving back to Africa in 2011
Bummer… I was really enjoying the extreme terrain Chile and Argentina had to offer.

I think the ASO prefers Africa for the primary reason that it’s cheaper for them…. as it’s just a hop across from Spain.

Nice one Ron!

...I'm heading up to Tremblant twice in the next three weekends.

Maybe I should buy a jet?

Your glass is always half full Ron....except that one. It looks like it needs a refill!

Weekday prices are cheaper.
Also, that quote is based on two people.

As it turns out, four people (and my sled) are coming. Flying there is no longer an option.

Makes sence for a one way single. They just filled a seat that otherwise would have been empty. Likely even cheaper if they had standby.

right place, right time
