Sending Passports in the mail?

I know its risky but anyone had experience with this? Im a kiwi that was living in Australia before I started my RtW trip. Currently in India trying to get a Pakistan visa. Now Ive been through the Pakistan embassys in Australia andNew zealand websites. It appears I could send my passport to my family in Au or NZ with all the relevant documents. Then get them to Courier it back to me.

Is my visa likely to be refused because well my passport shows I was stamped into India and never left?
Is this done are there anylaws about it? are you alowed to be in a foreign country with out your passport?

Thanks for any input I know post is risky but delays I can handle the air ticket home just to get a visa seems ridiculous

Thanks again

This is a very good question ,here the US postal service has missed placed several checks to the local area ,the last was delivered open, taking over a month to cover some 70 miles in each case.

I have done it within Europe a couple of times without a problem, though mail is generally rather good and as I'm an EU member state citizen, there are no stamped-in-not-out visas to worry about.

I suggest using a courier if you don't trust the mail, and insure it for something approaching the hassle-value or replacing it.

I wouldn't risk it but you could use recorded delivery.

For British citizens who need new passports abroad you HAVE to get them couriered as embassies no longer will issue them aboard. Water destroyed my current passport now have to wait two months and will cost almost 500 dollars for the "emergency" travel document, the new passport and the courier costs of both sending old one to UK and having them post new one out to La Paz, here in Bolivia. It's a nightmare! UK people mind your passports!!!

Used to be able to get passport at the OZie embassy .. no longer ..

6 weeks turn around ..
+ transport time? Say another 2 weeks.. 10 weeks total

--------
Then 83ukp for the passport + 20 for the delivery (to Oz) total 103ukp payable by credit card.. just something else to plan for. And another reason to have two passports.

Quite a few courier companies class passports as prohibited goods now!! doh PLEASE check carefully before you send yours!

yeah the idea was to send it via courier. inside a magazine or something. I was more thinking will they refuse my visa because my passport is in Australia and im in India?

I have managed to buy something small online using a bank to bank transfer so Ill wait and see if using my hotel as an address works or not. The guys at reception just stare at me blankly when i try and explain that I am expecting a package so I dont really hold much hope tbh.
but if it does arrive at least I then have the name of a courier that can reach me.
I think im going to fly back all the way back home to get the visa and some new tyres and bike parts im sick to death of stressing over it. CrazyI thought when i left on this trip id be able to send myself stuff. its just not the case is it? im constantly looking for bike consumables that arent available..

Most seem to find that kind of stuff on the road... You got something strange?

Don't you have an Ozie motorcycle shop or two that you have negotiated with to send you stuff? Can be expensive with shipping and customs charges but ..

Air flights .. remember you'll be coming back heavy .. Air Malaysia has a 30kg limit in economy .. might be cheaper than a cheaper ticket with the excess baggage charges? Oh .. your coming up to peak season too .. so $$$$. doh
