Brilliant mate, just finished them... well done. I hear you're in the USA. Are you filming this trip? I hope so.

next one
Hi Guys
Thanks for kind words. Im off to USA in August. Not sure whether to film or not, takes up so much time and energy. I'll decide sooner to setting off perhaps. The KTM ended up on a truck from Karachi, to Lahore - Amritsar, then to Delhi when it was flown to Bangkok and repaired there. Then some other stuff went wrong in Indonesia but made it all the way to perth then across to Sydney when it was flown back to Dubai and sold. I dont know how he managed to part with it. Apparently the other KTM's had some issues in north pakistan, a severe engine failure I think. Cheers |
Long Live the Tiger!
Fantastic work ... really enjoyed the series. Funny to hear the KTM guys had to eat Crow in the end! doh
I knew your 1050 would make it easy ... like you, I've also been to the Triumph factory and have seen how they are made. (Hinckley, not Thailand) I've only done a couple two week long tours in the Western USA on my 1050 and many long weekends. Has never missed a beat, but I'm only on 20K miles so far. My DR650 gets most of the miles and the hard off road use, but I have taken the Tiger on quite a few dirt roads. It's OK once you get used to it. Big Kudos for the epic tour! :D:clap::D bier https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I..._xgzGf-L-1.jpg Southern Oregon https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-U...0/P1010705.JPG Idaho https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-0...75_EA5xy-L.jpg Nevada |
I’m sure it was a royal pain in the behind with all the stopping, starting, editing etc. whilst still trying to cover the miles, but in my humble opinion it was well worthwhile. I think you did a sterling job!
Thanks for the honesty too (at the start of Iran for example) as I know it isn’t all sunshine and smiles out there. I rode a lap of Turkey last year and your footage of ballooning in Cappadocia brought it all back and all the videos made me want to get on the bike and go see a little more of the world so thanks for that. I read a week or two ago that a Spanish cyclist and his Police escorts were ambushed crossing Pakistan leaving 5 Police Officers dead, so you timed it well! Perhaps one day I’ll be able to get back out there, but for now with one kid and another on the way, I’ll have to make do with excellent videos such as yours and class adventure as a weekly trip to Sainsbury’s – for now. Ps. I rode across America a couple of years ago and have never known a friendlier, kinder and more welcoming race of people in all of my travels and it is a stunningly beautiful country to boot. You’re in for a superb time and if you call through Sturgis during rally week and keep yourself occupied with the plentiful sights til’ Bonneville, you can’t go far wrong! Brian |
Just watched all 6 episodes over the past 2 days, and what a great watch it was. You have some seriously good editing skills. Thank you for taking the time and effort, its much appreciated and a BIG +1 on filming your USA trip :)

Ditto all the comments above! Excellent footage and editing.
|
watched the first 2 this morning, very enjoyable.:thumbup1:
You seemed to have a facial hair continuity problem in Turkey:rofl: I presume you used a tripod for some bits, then edited out the bits where you had to ride away and back again, then used random people to film some other bits. great tip about the Sherborne show, never heard of it but only just up the road from me. |
really

hahaha really - well spotted.. random people, well any unsuspecting bystander, they're all called Claudio ... Yes go to the show and tell em Steven sent you, they will give you a blank look and still demand credit card though. |
Had a day off work today, so watched them back to back. A good way of spending a day! Brilliant!

what camera gear were you using BTW, and what editing software? |
Started to watch your vids but the sound went on my laptop doh On the Iran one you talk a bit about getting ripped off - i then saw a guy with glasses sat on your bike , does this involve him ? He keeps popping up on the hub as a "fixer" with various opinions about him . Mostly he helps you across the border for a fee , then takes you to his house and visitors get a bill in the morning for food and accomodation , sometimes he also "borrows" their bikes for a quick spin that turns oout to be slightly longer than anticipated .

Only episode 6 now seems available? I only got to the second! I don't think it's just me being a Luddite . . . doh
|
Yea ... they've all gone "Private".
Could be he has plans to release a CD for sale ... make a few bucks to pay for the trip? I know I wouldn't buy the CD if it were on U Tube FREE! Even RTW folks got to eat! bier |
DVD being pressed
Hi Guys
Apologies if its caused frustration. I removed first 5 episodes and will remove six soon. Its going to DVD. Im not making anything from it. Money is going to charity. Still finalising details but in essence its cost me a bloody fortune to do. Would be nice to get some of my costs back but that wasn't the point of making it. Apologies if its cut off but I had to do at some point. I've been in touch with Grant and the DVD will be available here soon. I'm sure most people wont have any problem offering a few pounds or dollars for a permanent copy. There has been a fair few changes to the DVD version and an interesting ending added. Hope this doesn't piss anyone off too much but it would never sell if freely available. |
Good luck with the DVD Steve. Great idea ... and you've earned the right to "break even" on all your work. Very nice of Grant to offer support. Hopefully you'll show up at an HU Rally and do a talk!
My only advice would be to make a nice, spicy trailer (preview) that potential buyers can click on to get a small dose of what the DVD offers. Will really help sales, IMO. I hope all the folks here on HUBB and over on ADV Rider will help support your effort. bier |
hmmmmm.... the OP was made 2 weeks ago and last week it was already set to private... So for the ones who were very quick they could enjoy it for free and the rest of us need to pay...
"It's all about the money.... and it ain't no funny...." doh Sorry about this, but it's just how some of us feel when reading this. In any case, good luck with the sales! |
now on DVD

Yes they have been removed from youtube. Here's the story. I never intended to sell the video. I never intended to edit in the first place. It sort of grew from nothing and over the past year has turned into a monster for me. I had so many people asking me for a DVD that I decided to put to disk. Then with the trip not doing anything worthwhile itself I felt that it'd be great if I could earn some money for charity. Welll one close to my heart is a charity in Australia youthfocus.com.au. Helps teenagers and young adults with depression, self harming etc. Another, is Help for Heroes in UK. I'm sure most of you know them. Suffice to say I have very good reason for picking these two as I have close family members who have needed help and didn't always receive it. I'll leave it there. So every penny in profit goes to these charities. I've sold about 80 so far, hopefully I'll be able to pay for the production of the DVD in next few weeks. The time and effort that went into them shall never be repaid except by a warm fuzzy feeling that I've done something worthwhile with my time. Hope you all understand and that you put your hand in your pocket and buy one. Oh just remembered, A good few changes, sound and script and other things so the DVD version is lot better! Not to mention wee surprise. Thanks. |

personally, I say fair play. There are lots of peole on here fund their trips through sales of books, merchandise and DVDs, so why not this one, just because you missed out on the freebie. Anyway, it wuld apear that the sales are not going to funding trips but towards a charity |
It's not just about me. Don't point fingers or assume things please.
I didn't saw the post until I got a few mails about it and that's why I responded. I personally have no problem at all people writing books or making dvd's or doing whatever they want to make/raise money. I've bought several books and films in the past few years so that's not the issue. And I can perfectly understand why, but some people (yes including me) think it's almost a marketing stunt to work this way... Drugdealers also work this way btw... hahahaha! Like I said, I wish haggis all the best with the sales! |
Evolution of a DVD
Quote:
Marketing stunt :) I'm not that clever, in fact it's probably more clumsy of me to do it this way. I really should redo the trailer to make people want it more... maybe I shouldnt have put any on youtube ... it wasn't planned, more evolved, really! It was for another TV show that has since died. I started to edit myself and its grew from there - honest! |
No worries mate, I know how it is and can be... :innocent:

If you don't have a problem with it why post such a bitter sounding diatribe? I'm having some difficulty understanding your position as you seem to contradict yourself, but there you go, must be me again. BTW, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the films! |
Quote:
Please elaborate, now you've made me curious! |
Quote:
Jealous, hell yeh!!doh In other words, if you can make some money out of travelling to pay for more travels, then go for it. |
:mchappy:
True, can't argue with that... Although we personally declined all the after trip stuff, we enjoy more giving presentations than writing a book or making a dvd. But that's beside the point! |

One thing I can attest to is just how TOUGH it is to get a film made. Road films are one of the toughest to do. Been there, done it. I worked making documentary, TV and Features for 25 years, with plenty of Doc projects in USA, Asia, S. America and Africa. Doing it on a bike with NO support as Haggis did, is even tougher. Ewan and Charlie had a whole crew and lots of support. All they had to do was ride and do a daily video diary. (oh, and they had to Cry in Mongolia! :rolleyes2: ) ... and of course pay the bill! Haggis used folks he met along the way to do shooting. Big respect to be able to get that done and actually get usable footage out of it. bier Then, when you get home, you've got the whole mess to edit, add music and then ... toughest of all ... find distribution. doh Constant stopping to get a shot really slows down progress and can DOMINATE your trip. But in the end, we're all glad Haggis made the effort as his film fuels all our dreams and imaginations. I would not (could not) do such a thing now ... just too much like "Work" for me, would take away enjoyment of the ride. Don't get me wrong, I loved my work ... but it's quite hard working for Corporate types under tight schedules and them always bitching about "cost". (don't ask them what their year end bonus was ... :rolleyes2:) I can barely manage a few pics and send back a few emails. No ride reports ... I'm old fashion, I still send letters and postcards. :mchappy: :blushing: |
I want to watch them but my you tube says this video is set to private, is this just me?
|
Plonker me! should read all posts, its on DVD…. So maybe I buy the DVD,,:nono:
|
Buy the DVD - you know you want to
