Has anyone successfully bought a bike in South Africa?
I have been talking to a dealer in Cape Town. He says that as non-resident foreigners (Both dual nationality: British/Irish and Spanish/Iranian) we cannot buy or register bikes there.
He can’t suggest any work-arounds.

Something can be fudged with enough effort... in this case by a Netherlands national.
