SPOT / Delorme : who already used the rescue function?

Hi guys, I am a Swiss adventure rider and writer for some Swiss and French motorcycle journal.
I am really interested in writing an article about people that needed to use the Emergency button of their SPOT device. Where they rescued, in how much time, what happened... etc.
I am in no way related to SPOT nor selling their devices. I have one as well, and as a adventure rider, I think it's pretty interesting to have feedbacks from people that had to use them in remote places.

If you had to use it, or a friend of yours, can you please contact me? It would be great if I can collect at least half a dozen experiences in very different places in the world.
Thanks a lot! Cheers and ride safe !
I publish some news and stuff in english as well on my facebook page: zimi on the loose

Hi Amik,

I want to have stories that don't come from their website, who knows what is true and what not in their website.

And especially, I would like stories related to morocycle.

Thanks

Paid or unpaid?

Zimi 28 Oct 2015 16:04

No sorry I can't pay you for your stories... as I probably not getting paid neither to write my article and even if I am, it will not be much.

Spot sucks when it comes to rescue. If you use the device the wrong way and if it is not a true medical injury type rescue, you are at a loss. Once you request help, they transfer it to the local authorities, then the police come. In my case, they spoke with me on the phone then transferred me to a jail house. I was left to fend on my own.... They do respond, I give them credit for it, but after, they are useless. I am currently seeking for an alternative, heard DeLorne is better.

You might include delorme owners in your request. SPOT is OK in much of the world, but Delorme is way more reliable. Add to that a cheap rescue package and you should have the lot. (GEOS Search and Rescue Resources $17.95/year)

There was a recent article over at the expeditionportal re what happens when you press the sos on both devices

What Happens When You Press the SOS Button? | Expedition Portal

Seems the delorme has significant advantages with the 2 way comms assisting GEOS response over the SPOT

Thanks for sharing the article, but even in there, they have no testimonies of people that need to press the rescue button.

I hope I will find at least someone on this forum.

Thanks for sharing this information with your friends if you know somebody that had to do it.

Here is one story but it was not an actual emergency (false alarm).
