Horizons Unlimited - The HUBB - Thailand guides....

Hi everyone,

Now this may open up a whole can of worms.....but reference guides for Thailand. Where have people got this information from please?

I am currently in UB, Mongolia and I was thinking of air-freighting to Laos...but this doesn't seem possible. So I considered Bangkok but tales of high import/customs costs and a "mandatory" guide are slowly putting me off.

So I have been in contact with 2 different contacts, both living in Thailand. 1 is English and the other guy is Thai.

Both of them say that a guide is definitely not needed. A guide is only for Myanmar and China. Obviously if you book a "tour" in Thailand a guide will be issued.
But apparently, you can ride and roam freely (providing you have the correct permits/insurance/paperwork etc) on your own motorcycle, completely solo.

Has anyone got any actual facts, info or experience at all for this subject?
