The Last Overland - TV Series
 

This is a TV series covering the trip from Singapore to London of a 64 year old series 1 Land Rover (called Oxford). This was one of the pair (the other was called Cambridge) that did the journey from London to Singapore 64 years before.

If you are in the UK it is straightforward to watch - it is on Channel 4. For those outside this sceptred isle then you will need a VPN. Anyway here is the link.

If you want to pick fault with it then yes, there was a support crew in two modern Land Rovers, a doctor / mechanic / umpteen camera crew and support staff sorting out the paperwork side. On the other hand one of the people was a member of the original team that took the two Land Rovers to Singapore in the first place and he was 87.

For those interested, the first overland trip heading the other way, from Singapore to London took place in 1958.

I was lucky enough to know Roy Follows, who with Noel Dudgeon, made the trip.

Roy wrote two books, First Overland; Four Wheels and Frontiers about the trip and also The Jungle Beat, about his time fighting Communist insurgents in the (then) Malayan jungles.

Also worth noting are the Canadian Hyland family (husband, wife and three boys!), who did London to Singapore in an original/restored 1 series in 2015/6 - they naturally haven't had the same amount of publicity.
