It's the journey, not the destination
Some mornings I wake up and know I'm on the right road. This was one of those mornings. My first words this morning were the lyrics to Nat King Cole's "Route 66." My thoughts were of the road, the Mother Road of North America.
Many past mornings I awakened very near the road itself. My ranch is on a hill, my dirt gravel lane empties into Route 66 as it winds from Winona, through the ponderosa pine forest, toward Flagstaff. The high snow covered peaks, called sacred mountains by the Navajo and Hopi, dominate the road, and reveal the road as it is, insignificant layers of asphalt. Nat King Cole's 1950s recordings of "Mona Lisa" and "Unforgettable" were my lullabies. He also composed and recorded the now infamous song "Route 66" that has help to crystalize an idea, a concept for our own music video. When I see Glen Heggstad's photographs, (StrikingViking in Ride Tales), and reflect upon how different they are from the post election media images of Iran, I understand the importance of those differences. No one has written a ballad about the Pan American Highway, we can do this and more much more. We can share our experiences through a music video. Ideas welcome. xfiltrate.... Tuareg music Niger
It is a very dark, windy, wet and stormy night on the north coast of of Spain. I can see the lights of A Coruña out across the water, but my thoughts are of Africa and the Sahara. I was researching ancient "Algerian" caves and cave drawings and found this music on YouTube. It centered me and made me smile. I hope you enjoy it too. The guy really knows how to ride a camel!

I'm just in the middle of reading "Hotel California" by Barney Hoskins. It's about the L.A. music scene in the late Sixties/early Seventies centred upon Laurel Canyon. CSNY, Buffalo Springfield, Joni Mitchell, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt all feature in the book along with other characters like David Geffen, Ned Doheny, Henry Diltz et al. Good stuff.
The old blues stuff on this thread is excellent. Who plays??? Here's some of mine. |

Socks, I truly enjoyed your contribution. The guitar looks like my
Simon Patrick guitar, but I could not make out the brand name. I am a great fan of Jack kerouac esp "On the Road" the city of lights etc hammer on. Jack's Mother was my Grandmother's neighbor in St Petersburg, Florida. Now there's a one of a kind brand for you! I remember Dr. Jerry Wagner (my English prof at USF) paying a taxi to transport Jack Kerouac from his Mother's house in St Pete to Tampa where he used to sit on the bar at the Wild Boar and pontificate. He was either drunk or on drugs or both every time I saw him. I was underage, but used to sneak into the Wild Boar, a Tampa bar that was burnt down by Tampa's vice squad soon after Jack Kerouac died. This thread was established as Wabash Blues for the HU, music for the Bar My Grandfather Harry George an Velma Truett , recorded a cover of the old time tune Wabash Blues for Colombia Records, see first post, and, Harry and Velma also recored their original "Ghost Dance" in 1927 for Colombia Records, in those days the artist sold all rights to Colombia for $50.00 USD and that was that, GHOST DANCE by Truett and George 1927 - Unusual Guitar duet - YouTube but somehow Grandpa's Ghost Dance is still being covered by artists of the day like John Jorgenson John Jorgenson - YouTube Jorgenson ain't bad either.... Grandpa Harry and Velma went on to invent TRUJO banjos and guitars and eventually sold out to Gibson Guitar company.
