I'm afraid it was all Kerouac! It was an homage to the great man, just some of my favourite quotes from 'On the Road,' and 'Dharma Bums.'

My writing nowadays is very similar in style, just nowhere near as stunning in content. I've got some fairly recent pieces on Spain that you might be interested in, if you would like me to send them. I'm looking for erudite feedback at the moment so I can work out how to write up my forthcoming trip.

I'm jealous that you are in Galicia! I love the province, many many fond memories there, even if they do speak a crazy fish language. I want to move back and live there permanently one day.

I too, am of the opinion that there is a world economic crisis, and am convinced that capitalism is dying, if not dead, yet we cling to it like an old dog that you really should put down, but cling to for selfish reasons. Every 'fix' is from short sided people inside the system, you don't get a siamese twin to perform the operation to separate it from itself.

I don't mind saying I quite like a lot of John Denver stuff, particularly this piece. It oftens goes through my head during a sunny day on my bike, just like in this video.
I wonder if he wrote anything about the rain?

And here I'd like to offer the best 3 1/2 minutes ever broadcast on any TV network - in the UK anyway.

My qualification to say this is that I was a distribution network engineer for many years on BBC and ITV networks, (and the chief installation engineer for when Channel 4 was introduced) - and I don't care if that's irrelevant or not - this programme made the cables rattle!
This South Bank Show has got to be the best thing those networks ever broadcast and I've never understood why the programme's owner has never brought it out on DVD.

The final 3 1/2 minutes starts 7 minutes in.

In the 50s I spent quite a bit of time in a music shop in Leytonstone. His book fairly flew off the shelves. Could never get the hang of the guitar though, but still have one in the cupboard.....

Did you get to Aranda de Duero? Another nice Spanish town like all of them wherever wine is grown.

Last year we rode from Spain to

Istanbul then half way along the Black Sea coast and went south to Goreme

and around the southern coast up to Izmir. What a beautiful country.

Anyway, needed cheering up this morning, and this thread could do with a bump. So I started with this: 81 Years young at the time.



In 1993 he did a similar show at the Barbican in London. Aged 85, still a magnificent entertainer. What a show!!!!!
