What should I bring with me on a 6 month trip?

Looking at my list of things to bring with me, it's easy to guess I will be like this biker! :thumbdown:

Globetrotters, What should I bring with me on a 6 month trip?

It depends where are you going.
Clothes, you need just a few t-shirts, few underwear and maybe one set of long pants.
Are you going to camp?
Do you know your bike? Can you make your own services and fix it? Then get all needed tools.

You do not need as much stuff as the guy in your picture :D

Have you seen him?!...that's crazy, especially if you are supposed to like riding!
By the way, soon I will be riding all over my country (Italy) for a 6 month trip, pretty much a safe ride, and thanks to a partnership with a magazine I will be riding different bikes.

That's what I'm concerned about, because all bikes have different panniers capacity.
In terms of numbers, I was thinking to bring with me one week of underwear....to have a good laundry rotation!

What's your thought?

I find less is better, I can take just my tank bag and feel everything else is as safe on the bike as it is going to be, there is also a lot less to cart up to hotel rooms.
If you do leave with what looks like rather a lot you can always send it home, sell or give it away when you work out what is actually needed. Alternatively go away for a few days and see what you use, it won't be much less than you will use over six months.

I have been on the road now 2 years and have 3 sets of underwear (plus long underwear which I keep under my riding gear).
If you are in Italy, you can survive with 2 sets of underwear. When one is dirty, you do hand wash and let it dry during the night. Fast, easy and light.
Remember, if something wears out, you can buy new set, no need to carry so much with you.

Also, if you stay in Italy, you can ask your friends or family to send some stuff for you (if you missed something).

You are changing bikes, so less is better.

There are actually three set there, not that I usually discuss my underwear on a public forum :innocent:

You don't really neeeed underwear;) but I highly recommend ExOfficio. Never stinks, dries fast, takes up little space. But yes you need way less clothes than you think.

Also a good down sleeping bag can be compressed down nicely. Exped mats fold super small.

Just start with a toothbrush and a credit card and get stuff as you need it.

At the end of the six months you can them post up what you've used and we can benefit from your experience. :thumbup1:

17 countries 6 weeks with just a pair of them (ok..maybe Two)

The bulk of my stuff is camping and cooking. My recommendation is merino wool. ..socks, shirts, pants. One set on one set spare. I also have 2 cotton tshirts and cargo pants with zip off legs. What im missing is a pair of swimming shorts so need to find a market.
My winter stuff has been bagged and will be sent home. ie extra jacket and rukka liners sleeping bag. I carry two bags one summer and one two season now its warmer the larger two season is going back. When it was cold I used both.
