Where to buy New Honda in South of Chile

Brand new member. Glad to be here. Hopefully I can participate and contribute once I figure things out more!

Please forgive or advise if this is in the wrong place. Long time motorcycle owner/rider, thinking of heading to Chile for a while.

I am wanting to buy a new small Honda in Chile. I do not really want to do this in Santiago. I am thinking I would prefer to buy one somewhere a little south, like Temuco or the Pucon area. Would anyone have any idea where would be best? Really anyplace south of Talca would be of interest.

A guy I met on the road is selling his nearly new small Honda in Puntas Arenas IIRC.

The wife and I are actually looking to buy 2. So a dealership with good staff would be ideal. Thinking to get 2 off the showroom floor. Ideally CB1 TUFs so pretty economical.

Or maybe a couple looking to sell a pair. Time frame is October this year.

Be aware of that you will most likely as a foreigner not be allowed to take a chilean plated bike out if the country. But if you plan to only ride it in Chile it will be no problem.

A friend from Japan, on a Chilean bike. Met him in Torres del Paine and hes now in Argentina with his Chilean bike accordin to his facebook photos.

Well - that one guy accidently «slip through» a border doesnt make it legal. Did you read the post I mention above?

This is all an interesting turn of events. Thanks for pointing this out. I guess we better do some research and think about things.

I know I would be pretty upset to get to the first border crossing and be denied! I wonder if there would be a better country to head to than Chile? We are familiar with Chile so it would have been good....

I think you should definetively check it out with chilean authorities before you buy something you probably cannot take through a border. But the post #143 in «How to buy a bike in Santiago» that I referred to above quite clearly indicates that its not possible anymore.

Not that I have any personal experience with it but from what I have read Colombia and Peru seems to be better options to buy bikes for foreigners that also will allow them to be taken through borders.

Your suggestion and some further digging led me to look at Peru. I discovered the services of Around the Block Moto Adventures. Their bike prepping service sounds like something I would be interested in using. I'm going to do some more reading, I know they are mentioned on HUBB here.

Also sounds like Peruvian bikes can travel about and cross borders. That's good. Maybe things are back on track.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. All that text proves is that one guy made it through. Maybe the border guys let everyone slide, or maybe they turn everyone back and this one guy was lucky.

Without more examples or proof, I wouldn't want to gamble my trip of a lifetime on getting lucky at the border.
