Where are you going over Christmas?
 

I have 2 weeks off and I'm looking for trip ideas. Setting off from UK, I would really like some sun. Riding a Yamaha XT660 Tenere. I looked at Tunisia but the ferry is expensive and runs on odd dates. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well don't do what I did two years ago and head off for some sun in Mauritania. The weather en route was so awful I gave up after 1000 miles of Euro rain and snow and came back. This year I'm bowing to the inevitable and trying to get above the clouds to see the sun - we're going skiing.

Two years ago, I got cheap tickets to Vietnam and did the Northern Loop there on a rented XR150. Highly recommended. Realistically if you want somewhere warm and sunny that doesn't shut down over Christmas, you need to head to Southeast Asia.

If you're willing to chuck flying into the travel pot as well as / instead of riding then Vietnam comes highly recommended secondhand from me as well. Both my 20 something kids have just come back (3-4 weeks ago) from around Hanoi and said it was one of the best areas they've ever been to - and they travel a lot.
