I am a self-employed machinist in NE Wisconsin with an idea for a product -- I hope I'm not violating the selling rules here, but I don't really know how else to do this.

I finally bought my dream bike and at 9pm the night before we left for our first "Adventure" to Pictured Rocks up in the UP, I realized that our commitment to "All The Gear, All The Time" was a serious hassle. It's a 3 mile hike to the beach, but only one of our expensive intercom-equipped helmets fits in my large pannier and locking the other under the seat is not so easy. Plus, jackets, pants and boots all take up space. My clever wife sent me back to work with an idea for an extension so I could fasten the lid without closing it all the way, which I milled from solid aluminum. I used a stainless bolt to lock the other side and put a suitcase lock on the bottom and it worked. It's not REALLY secure, but it's better than just leaving everything out in the open. Please see attached photos.

So I'm thinking about selling these, but I need to know if anyone would be interested in buying them and if the design is OK before I start production. I had a local fab shop bend up 10 out of stainless -- they're kinda ugly but until I build my own tooling, it will have to do.

I'd like to sell them all just to get opinions. With the stainless bolt and lock nut, I've got to get $25 ea to cover my cost. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

There are better ways to secure your helmet.

Bit late for a reply......but I was just browsing.

This is not much help because I don't know the product name or where to get it...I think it was a US product. Searching the net will bring it up I would think.

It is a bag made of a nylon material with an indestructable mesh liner sealable with an unopenable lock unless you have the key and secured to the frame of the bike by a fine wire cable that cant be cut, using a lock that has a hidden clasp and cant be opened unless you have the key. It was able too carry all the stuff you could ever carry on an overland adventure including helmets. It had plenty of room. Looked ugly and inviting to passerbys as an interest of thought as much as "what the heck is in that thing" sort of response. BUT unless there happens to be a fully equipped thief walking around with his own power supply who happens to be looking at motorcycles trying to find one of these specific bags and has the right sort of special tools to 'TRY' and get into the bag then it is safe to leave on the bike. It was indestructible (as much as it can be) - no one can get into it or remove it.

Regards
greg
