Buying a motorbike in South America
Hey guys!
We are two Danish guys who are planning a motorbike trip in South America. We have read a lot of different threads on buying a motorbike in south america but a lot of these threads are a bit old so we would like to hear what the status is now. Basically we would like hear how and where we should buy our motorbikes. We have been talking about flying into Chile, Argentina and Paraguay but are open to suggestions as well. On our trip we are planning to drive through Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia and maybe Peru, so we need to get papers so we can cross the borders. We have read a few places that in Argentina it is difficult to get hold of the papers in order to leave the country. In Chile it should be easier, but apparently the rules changed last year so now you need some sort of ID number. And where would we get the most for our money with regards to the quality of the bike? We know that there is a big difference between the taxes in Paraguay and Chile forexample Hope you guys can help! :) |

I believe Peru and Colombia are the easiest for foreigners to buy a local-plated bike and take it across the border. |
