TMT Rekkam Area

hello Again

I know that this section is being reec'd shortly, but I did try to look around for additional information on this section.

I know that chris had mentioned that it was not a very interesting area of Morocco, but the few video I did find seem to be quite interesting.

very low tourist traffic area and perhaps not as interesting as the mountains and sand zones.

Am I correct in assuming this is flatter rockier desert with less elevation change and challenges ?

from what I was able to find, it seems to be an interesting zone with long tracks of desert piste perhaps not as taxing as some of the other areas, but I liked what I saw, very lonely.

So I was wondering what about the rekkam is less appealing?

Cheers,

Paulo

This gives you are idea of the eastern side of the Rekkam Plateau, below Ain Beni Mathar.

I've done various parts over the years, there's some French Foreign Legion forts and other items of interest. Plus the train line down to Bouarfa. Further north the coal mines of Jerada.

I find the solitude quite appealing.

Pistenkuh has some amazing drone shots which include the east.

The old railway bridges east of Bouarfa look interesting. It's good to explore all of southern Morocco after which comparisons become irresistible. Quite far north, the bleak Rekkam has its own character but anywhere away from the Zagora–Todra–Merzouga axes, tourism barely has an impact.

I had intended to ride over the railway viaduct but the track bed stones (more like rocks) were of a size that could easily deflect the bike, so I chickened out.

I found my write-up of the 2015 trip. The photos are no longer online but the text remains.

Nice piste. Took a picture on the same spot. Really liked that part. Took the route from the 1st edition "Morocco Overland".
