Hi All

I am about to embark soon on a trip.. UK-EU-Central Asia- SEA... and then anybody knows... i have no time frame which is wonderful and frustrating at the same time!


First time, and looking forward to it, even though its a lot of things to think about :helpsmilie:


Revised: I will be on my Multistrada, have a tent and sleeping bag, so okay to camp/hotel..
The plan is to leave May so i can see some spring weather in EU.. i have a need to see most countries but not dictated to anything specific, its more about being out there on the bike and enjoying the time/trip in general. After head towards Asia..

I have the main parts of equipment, bike riding gear, bags etc... but as you know the list can be long so i was curious from all your knowledge and experience of RTW travels, what would you say is your best advice or experience eg..1 pointer

My best tip:

When you're around people with a lot of travel knowledge, ask them more specific questions that they can use to target their advice so it helps you.

And provide them with some information: where would you like to go?, will you be on a moto? or how are you planning to get around?, are you on a tight budget?, do you like hotels or camping?, what time of year are you leaving?, how long do you think you might like to be traveling?, etc.

Maybe start with: What are YOU most concerned about?

My absolute number one top tip for any motorcyclist:

Earplugs!

The absolute best value among motorcycle equipment and accessories. Costs nearly nothing, makes an incredible difference.

My second top tip:

Bring warmer clothes than you think you'll need.

Another vote for earplugs. Wouldn't go on a bike trip without them. As a minimum get a bag of disposables on eBay - dirt cheap. If you're starting from the UK you're unlikely to set off without warm clothing but it's not going to be sunshine and warm winds all the way.

My tip though is to be aware of psychological issues. It looks like a long route and you've only yourself to depend on. That will wear you down, and stress will end your trip quicker than riding a (insert your least favourite bike brand here). If you find yourself seeking safety in riding that's the time to take stock.

Hi... thanks for your reply... yes i could go into a lot a of details about it and i will revise the post, but it was more like a general question in terms of advice.. eg.. bring ear plugs,... recommended underwear etc.. :)

Thanks, got a custom pair made some time ago.. but also will get some disposables.. yes your right, my intention is not at the moment with a lot of warm clothing, so will buy another down jacket/fleece etc..


The psychological issue is for sure there, and i would be silly to say it wasnt, however we can only grow if we take some risks, and now is the time:thumbup1:

Custom/disposable earplugs for the bike but for camping and noisy hotels get some wax earplugs from the pharmacy - total noise block.
Best advice I ever had for camping - chairs millionaires :D

Also great for swimming in not too clean water they stop ear infections.

Screwfix in the UK do Stanley custom ear plugs that look quite good.

yeah thats true.. i found out the hard way with some swimming and led to a dodgy ear infection:(
