Buying a motorbike in Chile
 

would a Chilean bought motorbike get turned away or seized at the US and Canadian border even if the rider is a Canadian?

Does anyone know of any complications I could encounter while riding a Chilean bought motorcycle in South American/Central American countries?

If you manage to put the bike into your own name, you will not have any issues going anywhere except Canada. As a Canadian you can't ride a foreign vehicle. You can import it if it is 15 years old or more.

Chile limits the amount of time a vehicle can be outside of Chile, but, if you are not bringing it back, I suppose that is irrelevant, but don't expect to sell it in North America to someone going south as they will have problems when bringing it back to Chile.

If you can, I would suggest getting US bike in Chile and having it registered for you in the US or buy a Canadian bike in Chile while you are still in Canada, register it and then ride it back and you will have a Canadian bike when you cross the border, no problem
