Cell, telephone
Hello
I am planning a trip tp Argentina. I will be leaving Delaware around mid September. I have a one way ticket on Nov 14 on the Stahlratte. Regarding cell phone what is the best model? or type to bring with me I know it have to be unlock so it will accept different SIM cards Any recommendations Thanks Patrick ridewithpatrick.com |
Almost as bad as asking 'what motorcycle?' :wink3:
Technicalities.. You do want ones that operate on as many 'bands' (frequencies) as possible .. tri band (3) or quad band (4) are some terms to look for. G3, G2 etc ... While the new, faster technologies are pushed at you, it is the older stuff that covers more area... so don't be put off if the one you prefer does not have the latest technology (older models are usually cheaper too). Most chose first; 2 main choices of operating systems; Apple or Android (there are others - very much a smaller market share) Then .. do you want rugged/water resistant? Try to chose one that has a good screen for viewing in sunlight. For me I also want; GPS function ... micro SD card memory - so I have room for off line maps 32G is my minimum. wifi - to do small stuff on the web. usb recharging And ... try to chose a cheap one.. if it gets dropped, stolen etc etc it wont be a great loss. Oh .. and (again) get a screen protector and a silicon sleeve for it - these help protect it in the minor drops (they should be cheap). |
Since you give no information about what you're going to use it for, the nokia 515:

You might want to consider buying a (cheap) phone in the country you are going to visit. That might be a simpler solution than trying to get the correct type of phone in your home country (whatever that is, you did not tell us), making sure it is unlocked, etc. Having said that, if you prefer a high-end smartphone, you can go to an Apple store and buy an unlocked iPhone (for full price, they are not cheap) and be assured that it will work just about anywhere in the world except for parts of China. Apple makes three different versions of the same product (they don't advertise the version differences) and what version you get depends on where you buy it. Ones sold in China have the greatest frequency capability, ones sold in Europe the next greatest, and ones sold in North America have the least number of operating frequencies. Here's a link to information about what frequencies are used for GSM telecommunication in Argentina: click here. Michael |
