Corona Virus - where are you stuck?
There are a couple of people that I know are stuck on their travels and can't move forward or backward due to travel restrictions. I was wondering who was stuck. If we have a list then perhaps HUBB members can link up with and help people stuck near them - even if it is just to chat over the phone.
So if you are stuck put up your name and location (country and town/city). If you need any specific help then that could be useful too. If you see someone that is stuck near you then drop them a private message. |
I'm stuck in Tunisia until the Tunisian government lets the ferries to Europe start up (April 4th at the earliest) and the EC lets non-EC citizens enter the Schengen zone.
At present I am in Djerba and doing OK. Michael (Canadian citizen) |

Hi . I'm stuck in Uyuni Bolivia. Not a bad place to be, could be worse. Does anyone know of a good shipper for my bike??

shipper
If you're looking for ocean shipping, your best option might be out of Lima. Five years ago I used Leader Freight to ship the bike home. The agent was Nestor Tambini. (511) 475-7000. Not the most knowledgeable but he got it done. Went to their office for the paperwork and then to a sketchy part of Lima to have the crate built to size. The carpenters and I loaded the crate into a truck, locked the door and it went directly to the freight warehouse. 6 weeks later it arrived. It all worked well except US customs took several weeks to release the crate. Apparently there are a lot of drugs seized from freight coming from Peru. Although I did not hire an agent at this end and processed the paperwork myself. (Suggest that you don't get involved with Gaston in Florida). Several complaints about him although he treated me fairly. A contact at this end is TTC Total Trasportation Concept in Inglewood. CA. If you need a receiving agent in the LA area, they treated me good. Good luck.

I'm in Quito, Ecuador with a moto, better here than at home in USA.

Stuck in Joinville Brazil on my bike. Have an apartment rented through April 18th. City is on lockdown. All borders around me are closed. I have registered with the STEP program with the US Embassy so they know where I am and how to contact me. Food is available nearby. Laying low

Good to hear you've got a stable situation for now, O_D.
Best of luck to you........shu |
My wife and I have been in quarantine with our bike in Esquel, Argentina for five weeks now. Current lockdown is due to end on 26th April but we're fully expecting it to be extended again.
We're able to walk to the supermarket or pharmacy but nothing else. The roads into the centre of town are closed off by police and you need a permit to drive a vehicle. We are in a small apartment and have everything we need so no great hardship. Only concern right now is that we're heading into winter. If the lockdown lasts much longer our tourist permits and temporary import for the bike will expire. The government here have said they will extend expired tourist permits by 30 days when things start to move but we're not sure on the bike yet. I'm sure it will be fine though. We hope to be able to continue with our travels but suspect that the decision may be taken out of our hands. Argentina will extend our tourist permits by 30 days but I'm not convinced that we'll be able to freely cross borders. If that's the case then we may be forced to return to the UK :-( We'll just have to take it as it comes and plan as and when we know what's happening. Stay safe everyone Saludos Steve, Janette and Tigger Tiger 800 RTW - Two Brits and a Triumph Tiger 800 Round The World facebook #tiger800rtw |
Bike and I stuck at Mahahual, Quintana Roo Mexique. Borders to Belize or Guatemala are closed. Got a 180 days more visa and TIP extension. It’s not especialy fun but it could be worth. Waiting the borders reopening have a thought for all others riders. Be carreful

ViajarMOTO stuck in Spain...
Hi ya’all. We are Travis and Chantil (www.viajarMOTO.com) and we thought 2020 would be an epic year for starting full-time motorcycle travel. Who woulda thunk otherwise? We were just two weeks into our trip that started in Germany and ended in a screeching skid in southern Spain.
We are fortunate to have found an wonderful hostess with an AirBnB who has been incredible generous. Our apartment has all the needs a traveler could want and Chantil is able to make weekly grocery runs to a local store. Right now, Spain is expected to continue the lock-down until May 9th. However, I’m wondering if tourism will continue to be shut down until well after the summer. I imagine countries will not be to eager to let tourists potentially start another round of infections!? I’ve talked with the US Consulate in Spain and was told that our visa days will not count for the duration of the lockdown. If this is the case then we could still travel for another 70 days after the lock-down is lifted. But where do we travel? Sure, Spain is big enough and one could easily spend 70 days enjoying the different regions of this great country but I wonder if campsite, AirBnBs, and hotels will even be available. What about tourist sites? Will locals be upset when a pair of US plated bikes roll into town? So many questions and it’s starting to make me think that traveling in 2020 is no bueno... |
Ahoi (Hi) TravisGill!
if you have any questions about germany, if you are going back? let me know. May be I can help you. @But where do we travel? I think its better for you to find a save place , where you can stay and get more information about corvid-19, whats going arround the planed. (more than your president) *g* The spanish people are nice, but I don't now what happend when you are riding arround with US plates and asking for the next coffee-bar & cake. (arround some of the spanish people are diying) May be they think Mr. T is coming? Have a good time in spain, europe and take care of you! Cheers, Motravel :thumbup1: |

Stuck in the garage
5 Attachment(s)
I am stuck in my own man cave.
My garage. Or more correct. By moving to another garage. Finally time to make some progress. Both with moving and projects. lunch brake by the river. Could be much worse. |
Not that it matters, but I relocated to a nicer, cheaper place by the beach in Estaleiro Brazil for the time being.
Borders mAy not reopen for a long while. Options are limited, as are the return flights to the United States. Leaving Sunny (my beloved bike) behind and flying home may be the only option available in the next several months. Trautman Witte (Woody-owner of Woodys Wheel Works, a dear friend who supplied me with a wheel set for this journey) has offered me work in Denver as well as support to get me back on my feet if I was to abandon the bike and fly home. Hey....it’s an option. Not ideal, but I love the guy and it helps me fight feelings of desperation and hopelessness. I’ve paid rent here for a few more weeks. I’ll see how shit pans out. TG.....I know you check out HU often. If you see this, please know I appreciate the offer for help |

Stuck before the trip started
This was not supposed to be just any year.
But THE year. But I am stuck in Sweden, before I took of. 4 years ago, my wife decided to start a new life without me. I still had some years left to work. I am 63 years old this year. I decided 3 years ago that 63 would be enough and retire at that age. Everything went according to plan. I am now retired. Kids have left home since before. The plan was also to sell the house. To be able to travel free, without paying for and worrying about a house. Job done. House sold. New owners 2 weeks from now. I needed another type of bike that those I have. They are more classic bikes that have been restoration projects. No long distance bikes. So I bought myself a Suzuki DL 650. XT model. And modified. Money is needed. Even the pension will cover part of budget travelling. So I saved some while I still had a salary. => * No family * No job * No house * Bike ready * Money in the bank But I needed somewhere to live. As a base=> Portugal has 9 month of MC season, compared to 3 as we have in Sweden. (That is why we build so nice custom bikes i Sweden. We have 9 month i the garage every year) * Apartment bought. Small and cheap. Just to Lock up and leave when I want. Plan was to travel around in Europe. But to make the trip of my dreams. South America. Long time ago, I was in Ecuador. Since than I have been dreaming of doing SA on bike (or back packer) * Shipping is booked in container to Valparaiso Than comes Corona. And stops my dreams. Just when it was time to start. After 3-4 years of planning, preparation and dreaming. I know I should be happy for a lot. And that things could be much worse. But it is just a common pattern in my life. That when I have passed hard times and am ready to enjoy something. Than some shit happens. I am sober alcoholic since many years. I have been through 2 divorces, one other crashed relation lately, endless numbers of redundancy processes at work, stress from work that almost put me in hospital, 2 heap operations, 1 heart operation. I can't help it. But I feel like Sisyphus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisyphus As soon as I think that something is over. The struggle to get the stone up that hill. Something/someone makes it roll down again. And at my age, I do not know if I will get more chances. => I get depressed and are ready to give up. Best is to lower ambitions and expectations. With no expectations, there will be no disappointments. :rain: |
That all sounds very familiar...
I often feel that long term my life is heading towards a pointless dead end. But you have to keep planning adventures of some kind or other. If you stop dreaming, it all stops. You've got Portugal - covid-19 will be over some time! |

I know a couple around here, both around 40 years, quit the job, sold the house, where ready to leave for a RTW in May... |

But then I consider that with age comes various other issues, and maybe I won't able to physically do the epic world ride if I push it off too far in the future. Life is full of hard choices! |

In 2015, my ex decided, one month after we finished a 5 year self-build house and two weeks after we bought her a new Toyota, that she didn't want to be with me. Pure coincidence on the timing, I'm sure. So at the age of 64, earlier this year, bike freight was booked, air tickets bought, visas in place, medical insurance paid for, along comes Corona. Two days before the bike was to be shipped, in March, I read the writing on the wall, and pulled the pin. Rural Western Australia has escaped the worst of it, and at least I hadn't (quite) resigned from my job, so there are worse places to be trapped. Now turned 65 and just waiting for the Aussie border to open up again, and a vaccine to prove to be effective. The best you can do is try to keep your body fit and your mind occupied. I don't know how many more years of motorcycle camping and adventuring I've got left in me, but I'm sure as hell that I'm not going to go gentle into that good night, but will rage, rage against the dying of the light. Thanks, Dylan Thomas!! https://scontent-syd2-1.xx.fbcdn.net...53&oe=5FD12E0D |
