Costa Rica -- Dengue Fever Outbreak
Warning to all riders travelling through Costa Rica. There is a current outbreak of Dengue Fever throughout the country, including regions away from the coasts. I am just recovering from the Hemmorhagic form which I got near San Jose. Confirmed cases increased 4 times from recent years. They are considering it an epidemic.
The only prevention is to mitigate your chance of being bitten by mosquitoes. Use repellant. I didn't and I've been laid up most of 22 days. |

I know of another rider who got the less serious form of dengue in Colombia. It's always sounded like a miserable disease, no less so for motorbikers than anyone else, and it seems to be spreading quickly, including into areas far from the tropics.
