Entry to the US with Iranian passport stamps
After planning a route from the UK to NZ then onto south America and North America I thought we had a good plan. That's until I listened to the latest episode of Adventure Rider Radio where Mark Holmes got turned down for an ESTA and even a visa for the US due to having visited Iran in the last two years.
This seems to be something unofficially brought in by the Trump administration. Basically, it's making us rethink our entire trip, maybe going the east to west rather than UK -> EU -> Iran / Pakistan / India -> Myanmar / Thailand -> Aus & NZ (ok, missed a few there!) Anyone had any experience of this? |
Yes there are about 6 countries the Americans get funny about you having visited and Iran is one of them, fear not as you seem to be a Brit you can get a second or concurrent passport and do the Asia part of the trip on one keeping the other one clear and getting an ESTA in that one, mum's the word if asked about travels to any countries on their "of interest" list.

Thanks Mark, very useful. I think in that case I should be ok as I have dual nationality so can carry two passports :cool4:

The dual passport plan may not work as I seem to remember the US ESTA application I made last year asking whether you have a second nationality passport. Whether that links through to a question about whether you've travelled to the proscribed countries on that passport I've no idea but I'd check it out before heading for Iran.
It's that hurdle that's stopped me going to Iran for the last few years as US travel is taking priority at the moment. |
