Fake Food Poisoning?

Grandmother held in Spain over fake food poisoning scam says 'I am 100pc innocent'

I suspect this is push back by the British, I mean really who could fault a Grandmother? I am posting this here because my post with the reference to British who were actually convicted of fake food poisoning in Spain was deleted - with no explanation to me.

As I explained in my previous post, that was deleted, there are a number of causes of food poisoning: one is just a simple change of diet, the other is eating tomatoes - the only fruit with a porous skin, allowing bacteria to be absorbed into the fruit of the tomato and perhaps the greatest cause is contaminated ice by dirty bar bins where from which it is scooped.

Please do not condemn a foreign country just because you are vomiting have diarrhea and cramps. And, if you happen to be in Spain, have a Spanish doctor diagnose you before the authorities before claiming you are a victim of food poisoning from a Spanish restaurant.

I have lived in Spain, and those quick to condemn Spain for the realsons of health might want to avail themselves of this:

The 36 Best Healthcare Systems In The World - Business Insider

Of the 36 countries that have have better health care systems than the USA, Spain is ranked #7. The United Kingdom is ranked #18.

The Health care system in Spain is a lot better than the health care system in the UK and a whole lot better than in the USA.

My thoughts are the British are bringing the "food poisoning" with them when they visit Spain.

Let's see how long this post lasts?

Eat, Drink and Don't fake food poisoning in Spain and if you do get food poisoning see a Spanish doctor.

I read it on the internet so it must be true.

Wasn't it so they could make a claim on their holiday insurance? As "food poisoning" would have come and gone in many cases before the medical service could gather samples it was seen as something where the unscrupulous could turn a profit without having to get the police involved. There's so many cases of 24-48hr bugs being reported on e.g. cruise ships that most people would just accept it as yet another holiday hazard.

A dramatic rise in food poisoning claims has been making the news reports here recently though ...

It sounds to me like a variant of the "crash for cash" scam that was newsworthy a few years back but insurance industry medics are now treating claims of whiplash with a bit more suspicion.

Health in Europe

Mark Manley,
Obviously the trite, hackneyed expression you have employed might be true,
but your irony is overworked when you cite a study by NHS about NHS.

Here is a more recent and independent study for you to consider.

NHS is 'worse than healthcare in Ireland, Spain and Slovenia' in new global ranking | The Independent

NHS is the National Health Service of England, Scotland and Wales for those wondering who might be wandering and needing to know the quality of health care in GB verses Spain.

Here it is again. Spain ranks #8, the UK ranks # 30 and the USA trails at #35, in the 2017 study cited above.

MM does have a point, in his own way I think he meant to say some studies might be biased. If nothing else, one should look at who is doing/funding the study and ask the question if the ones doing/funding the study are stake holders in the outcome of the study, as in the study MM has provided us.

I have private health insurance in Spain. I pay less than 25% of what it would cost me in the USA for similar benefits....and my benefits in Spain have no co- pay or deductible as do most USA policies and there is no cap on the amount my Spanish health insurance will pay! I have rapid access to specialists if needed and I would not be caught dead in a USA or UK hospital.

My Spanish health policy pays for preventative Doctor's examinations every year with complete lab work ups. I attribute my great health at almost 71 years old to my Spanish doctors and the fantastic Spanish health care system - and guys I drink like a fish and get more ass than a toilet seat. Now there are two really trite, hackneyed expressions for you.

The third largest cause of death in the USA is medical malpractice, and unlike some recently reported cases of food poisoning in Spain this is real.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.80a3dea864d8

Bottom line just as we Yankees - USA know to go to the British Embassy and avoid the US embassy if we ever have a serious problem overseas, we also know if the choice is to be in a British hospital or a USA hospital - go with the British!

Cheers

There are internet based ambulance chasing lawyers moving into this. There was a clamp down on frivolous claims in the UK, but it doesn't apply in the EU so they've moved off cracked pavements, whiplash and supermarkets who only put out 93 warning signs and sound a siren when they mop the floor onto holiday insurance claims. They are already making them sign disclaimers at hotel check-in before the chips and Watneys Red Barrel comes out. If you get food poisoning you agree to report it to the hotels doctor.

Break Through on the Mysterious Food Poisoning

Please revisit the article I posted earlier this thread about the very wealthy British grandmother detained by Spanish authorities for faking food poisoning.

Flash, Flash Flash it wasn't the food, most probably she was eating her euros, an old fad gaining popularity among the super wealthy worldwide. Finally she relieved herself in Spain and blamed the food.

Don't eat your euros, Drink like I do and be careful
