How to reach South Africa overland?
 

Hi,
We are Mike and Angela traveling in Africa.
At the moment we are in Ghana and trying to find a save way to reach south africa overland. Are the borders really closed from Sudan into Ethiopie? Where is the best place to get a visa for Sudan? Who went through Nigeria/Niger,Chad,Cameroon or Sudan lately?

I got a visa for Sudan in Abuja in Feb 2000, embassey had just moved from Lagos, it took 2 days

Did the route Nigeria , Cameroons, Chad, Sudan in a truck, but saw bikes on the same route, I have some GPS waypoints if intrested

Currently in Morocco, will be heading through Mauritania, Mali etc... expect to be in Niger sometime in May, and thinking of heading through Chad, Sudan and Ethiopia to Kenya. There are 2 of us travelling in a Landrover 110 and would be looking for another 4x4 to do the chad Sudan Ethiopia leg. Have had different reports from various reliable (and a lot of not so reliable) sources that it is do-able, but not hassle free. If interested in joining up, post a message, and I will investigate further.

Hey, we (two bikers on tenere's) are in Bamako now and heading towards ethiopia via niger and chad. It is possible that my friend has to return to europe from here so I am looking for possible people to travel to Sudan with. I have my visa for Sudan which expires on the 4th of may.
Does anybody know what type of roads there are between Ndjamena and Abeche.

Hi guys,
I travelled from London to Cape Town and back to London by bike from October 2000 to March 2001. Route via Niger, Chad, Sudan, Ethiopia seems to be the most popular one, and is possible (difficult in Chad). But I wanted to do a circumnavigation of Africa, and chose to go via Cameroon, Gabon, Congo (Brazzaville), Angola, and Namibia. Tip: Get visa for Congo (Brazzaville in Yaounde, Cameroon (easy). Get visa for Angola in Libreville (Gabon). Pretend to be a business person to be successful. Visa applications accepted Mondays and Tuesdays. Visa given in three working days. Ride via Pointe-Noire into Cabinda (Angola), take ship around Congo River to Soyo or Luanda. Then go overland (if you dare), or take another ship to Namibe. From Namibe to Namibia border not overly dangerous. Good luck!!!

the last thing i had heard was that sudan no longer issues any overland visas. but this is not confirmed information.

i just arrived in cameroon from nigeria (no problems at all in nigeria). from here i'm planning to go south through congo and angola.
