HU Events and COVID-19
We understand you may be wondering whether Horizons Unlimited events are going ahead as planned, and how that may affect your own travel decisions. Your health and well-being are our top priorities, so please take care of yourself.
We are working with our local organising teams and event venues, and monitoring regional and global developments, including travel bans and restrictions on events. Decisions that may affect each event will be made together with the local organising team and announced as far in advance as possible. For now, all HU events are proceeding as planned, except for HU Virginia and HU Latvia. This may change at any moment, so stay in touch through the HUBB forum or social media. HU Virginia is postponed to August 27-30, 2020. HU Latvia is postponed until later in the year, exact date to be determined. We will reach out to registered attendees for both those events via e-mail to advise options. HU will provide event updates on the 1st and 15th of every month or as needed, on the HUBB Travel Advisories forum, on our Facebook Page, Facebook Group, and Twitter. Remember that there are simple preventative actions each of us can do. HUBB UK 2020 Postponed to 2021
Those who have already registered for the event should have received this email by now:
Hi everyone, As we tend to do on adventures, we will encounter unanticipated detours and uncertainties this year. Some re-routing is needed in order to find a new path forward. We understand that you may be wondering whether HUBB UK is going ahead as planned, and how that may affect your own travel decisions. We have been communicating with our local organisers and event venues, and monitoring regional and global developments, including travel bans and local restrictions on events. We hope that the corona-virus situation is under control before June, but it might not be. We are also aware that the HU demographic skews a wee bit older, and our deepest wish is that your well-being remains intact. Thus we have made the difficult decision to postpone HUBB UK 2020. Alternative dates available at Baskerville Hall were either still too early (July) or probably too late (mid-October), so we are postponing HUBB UK until 17-20 June, 2021. We appreciate that some of you will have made travel arrangements and incurred other costs, and we hope that you can change those plans. If you want to keep your registration (including BVH room bookings) for 2021, we will carry it forward for you. No need to do anything. If you need a refund, we will provide it as soon as possible, but please be patient. For refunds, PLEASE REPLY to your original Registration Confirmation email to make it easier for us to find, or if you can't do that, please email a request to: events-c (a} horizonsunlimited.comStay updated here: THIS HUBB UK Forum thread: http://hubb.to/hubb/hu-travellers-me...-18-21-a-99117 SUBSCRIBE to this thread or the general COVID thread above by clicking Thread Tools (at the top of the thread) and then "Subscribe to this thread". Please continue to listen to and follow the advice of your local and national health authorities. Stay healthy so that we can all catch up later. April 2 2020 Update
We hope everyone is doing well, with most of us under lockdown. :(
We're "lucky" that we can both work from home. Although a vacation with nothing to do would actually be kinda nice right now :innocent: So, update: We are continuing to monitor travel and event restrictions that relate to our events schedule everywhere.

HU Events and COVID-19, April 15 2020 Update
UPDATED April 23 2020:
HUMM and CanWest changes We are continuing to monitor the local situation for all events. We always want to be safe, and not put anyone at risk. We are very aware that many of our events are by design in small and remote communities, where they have limited medical facilities. We do not want to bring a lot of people from all over the world to these places, potentially bringing in the virus and putting the local community at high risk of overloading their already limited facilities. Here's the latest updates on all events: HU Germany Summer: Summer event is POSTPONED to July 30 to August 2. Subject to change! We will notify those who are registered for Germany Summer. HU Germany AUTUMN, unchanged: October 29 – November 1, 2020. HU Latvia: POSTPONED. New date to be determined (TBD), in progress. HU Bulgaria Mini: ON until further notice HU Canwest: POSTPONED to August 27-30 2020. That may change! The 2021 date is: July 22-25 2021. For 2021, that's just one weekend from the HUMM Cascades - ride both! HUMM Cascades: POSTPONED TO July 16-18 2021. That's ONE WEEKEND before the 2021 HU CanWest Travellers Meeting, on back-to-back weekends. So make it a Motorcycle WEEK and enjoy the wonderful roads and trails in the Nakusp to Princeton area! HU Sweden: Possibly POSTPONED. Details still in progress. Currently still July 24-27 HU Newfoundland: Currently unchanged, but at high risk of postponement. August 11-14 2020 HU Switzerland: Currently unchanged, August 13-16 2020 HU Virginia: previously rescheduled to August 27-30 2020 HU France: Currently September 18-20, 2020 HU California: Currently September 24-27 2020 HU Germany Autumn: Oct 29-Nov 1 2020 HU South Africa: Nov 5-8 2020 HU Romania: Postponed, tentatively May 27-30 2021. HUBB UK June 17-20, 2021 Remember, we will announce at least TWO months in advance we are postponing an event, unless the government makes a change that forces us to close. We will always make decisions with safety of both yourselves and the local Community an absolute first priority. Keep up with the physical distancing and hand-washing. We’ll catch up later! HU Event Update May 1 2020
Update MAY 1
Thanks to our local organizing teams, we continue to monitor the local situation for all events. We always want to be safe, and not put anyone at risk. We are aware that because some of our events are meant to be small and cosy, they are in more remote communities where medical facilities may be limited or far away. The last thing we want is for a lot of HU travellers from all over the world to visit these places and potentially put the local community at high risk of overloading limited facilities. Here's the current status of all 2020 HU events:

Update May 15
HU and our organizing teams continue to monitor the local health requirements and travel situation for all events. We are aware that because some of our events are meant to be small and cozy, they are in more remote communities where medical facilities may be limited or far away. The last thing we want is for a lot of HU travellers from all over the world to visit these places and potentially put the local community at high risk of burdening limited facilities. The Canada-USA border remains closed to non-essential travel until further notice. Travel between Canadian provinces is generally discouraged for now. While some EU and Schengen Associated States are considering cautiously easing physical distancing measures within their regions, the European Commission made an official request to extend the non-essential travel ban to June 15th for visitors coming from outside the EU. We’re keeping an eye on this as it develops and how it may affect HU events in the EU. Here's the current status of all 2020 HU events:

Update June 2
Thanks for staying in touch and checking in for these HU event status updates on the 1st and 15th of each month. The Canada-USA border remains closed to non-essential travel until further notice, although there is currently some talk about easing it for reuniting family members. Travel between Canadian provinces is still generally discouraged for now. The European Union’s external borders remain closed to international travel until June 15th and is currently being considered to extend after mid-June. While some internal borders may ease open, the usually passport-free Schengen area have reinstated border controls. June 15 2020 Update
June 15:
Thanks for staying in touch and checking in for these HU event status updates on the 1st and 15th of each month. We and our organizing teams continue to monitor the local health requirements and travel situation for all events. As borders to certain countries around the world start to ease open carefully, we strongly recommend that you check with reliable local travel authorities to confirm relevant details. Please follow their directions. For HU events, this means the borders between Canada-USA, within and around Europe, and within Africa. While it is still possible that a few HU events may go ahead in a limited way this year, we ask that, if you feel even a little ill, please stay home or somewhere safe instead of coming to the event this time around. Show you care by enjoying a HU gathering later when you’re fully healthy than taking chances now. Some of our events are meant to be small and cosy, and are located in more remote communities where medical facilities may be limited or far away. July 1 UPDATE:
Hi everyone, Since we started postponing events earlier this year, our fingers have been firmly crossed that a few months of sacrifices would allow us all to get back to 'normal'. We have been communicating with our local organisers and event venues, and monitoring regional and global developments, including travel bans and local restrictions on events. We are also concerned about our organizing teams who have to run the events and keep people happy AND safe while staying safe themselves. Virginia: Unfortunately, with less than 2 months to go for Virginia, COVID numbers are going in the wrong direction. The US / Canada border remains closed. The 4-H camp is accepting small groups (<50) at this point, in accordance with Virginia state regulations, but no meal service. After discussing with our local organizers and the venue, we've reluctantly concluded it's not possible to hold the event this year. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to POSTPONE HU Virginia to April 22-25 2021. Virginia Updates: HU Virginia Forum thread: https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb/hu-travellers-meetings-north-america/hu-virginia-2020-happening-apr-99266 CanWest: Meanwhile, while BC is cautiously reopening to residents and visitors, and is now officially in Phase 3, the maximum number of attendees at an indoor event is 50, according to the 'Mass Gatherings Order' of the Provincial Health Officer. Larger events aren't expected to be allowed until we enter Phase 4, and there is no date announced as yet for Phase 4, but it won't be soon for sure. After discussing with our local organizers and the Nakusp town and campground, we've reluctantly concluded it's not possible to hold the event this year. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to POSTPONEHU CanWest to July 22-25 2021. What happens if an HU event goes ahead? When travel restrictions in Europe eased open, we asked local organizing teams to submit in advance a COVID-19 health and safety action plan that describes how they will manage things before, during, and after their event. It took much time on their part to coordinate details with the venues and accommodations. We’re grateful for their efforts and commitment! At this time, HU France is still planned to go ahead – but remember that this can change at any moment closer to the event date, so always stay tuned through HU’s social media. If you are considering attending an HU Travellers Meeting this year, then we ask that you respect fellow travellers and communities as ambassadors for the HU tribe with physical distancing, wearing masks when you are not able to physical distance (especially when indoors), and washing your hands frequently and thoroughly. Please do not travel to the event if you are feeling even a little bit ill or suspect that you may be ill. Write us why you’re not coming and we will forward your registration to next year!
