Melbourne Motorbike Tour, First Tour.
Hey guys!
I got to know this site from tripadvisor. I am from Singapore, currently undergoing the highest cc lesson(able to ride above 400cc) which most probably will pass in 17 April 2015. I am feeling very down so i decided to go on a Oversea solo bike trip on my birthday coming June. Have do some research on bike rental, would love to rent a Ducati Monster 696 roughly Aud$250/Day with deposit of Aud$2000. Money wise is difficult but is once in a lifetime experience so i actually dont mind. But i have email several Bike rental in aussie, no one reply my enquiry. Is it perhaps because of the min age requirement for bike? I am turning 22 this year. Riding experience since Oct 2011. I have do several research on route for 2-3Day tor, Great Ocean Road is a must-do as i would like to do the Skydive at GOR too. As much as i would like to fully plan the route, now i am unable because i cannot even settle the Bike rental part.. Flight return from Singapore to Sydney is Sgd$400 Bike rental 3day @ Aud$250x(3) + deposit Aud$2000 Skydive @ Aud$400 Food and petrol and accomadation about 1K. I can eat any food and stay anywhere, maybe look out for airbnb deal nearby. Do you guys think my plan is able to work? Appreciate any kind of advice. Thanks guys  |
Hi
Sounds like you are planning a great trip. However, June is winter here - it rains (a lot) and is cold (a lot); on some June days, the max temp can be under 10 degrees. If you look south from the Great Ocean Road, the first piece of land you get to is Antarctica... which is where the wind comes from. Maybe from nice warm & sunny Singapore, riding in the rain would be an adventure - but it's cold too and Melbourne drivers are about the stupidest on earth. And the police are very keen: the speed limit on a lot of the GOR is 60km/h and they love to write big fat fines that are completely out of relation to the "crime" of going 2 or 3 km/h over the (stupid-low) limit. In terms of hire-bires, who did you e-mail? Probably the best-known in Melbourne is Garners bike Hire Garners Motorcycle Hire - Australia's largest motor bike rental and hire company but I see they demand minimum age of 23. You don't maybe want to wait till the weather is a bit nice, maybe from September onwards? |
Thanks Precis fr yor advice.
I didnt know winter fall on June.. damn.. Even though i weight about 100kg but i sleep without aircon or fan and cover with blanket. Doubt i can handle the weather. Rain is ok, but of cos the sunnier it is the better. Speed wise i doubt i be going fast, as i am actually have no much experience with big bike except learning. I will avoid speeding to aviod hefty fine. The journey to tour 4 day is already costing me alot! I wish to go in June, i dont exactly have much friend it will feel damn sad to celebrate in Singapore. Broke up with my gf of 4 year. Need to relax my mind. The weather i think i can wear double layer to handle it. Hopefully the coldness wont make me numb and react slower. Driver in melbourne are idiot is ok, just dont hurt the bike! I cant pay for repair haha. I have email Garners! Hopefully they get back to me. I see that 600cc bike need min23yo. Renting a 400cc bike the price seem to be not value.. Maybe if it cant be happening this year, i shall go vietnam first and aussie will be my next trip |
Finally got a decent reply from BIkeroundoz.
Sadly min age for 600cc bike is 23. I can only rent under 600cc bike. The price for cb400 4 day will be around SGD$600. While my dream ducati is SGD$800. I had estimate my cost for the trip. Jetstar direct 8hr flight return is Sgd$632 4 day rental super4 is Aud$600 (deposit of 2K) Skydive is Aud$400. Petrol food and accomidation 1K +- Helmet and touring gear bringing myself. Bike rental and the weather is stopping me from going this year.. i will see how its goes. |
