Nicaragua - How to travel around

Hi all,

We will be in Central America in around 3 months and intend on travelling through to Mexico. Does anyone have any information/ suggestions on how to travel around Nicaragura dur to the current climate there. Apprently it is unsafe to travel through.

Any advice would be appreciated

Possibly make an alternative country?
Fly to Cuba and then to the next place. You'd need to check air fairs, but it does add some to the trip.

Given what I've seen recently here in Honduras (we had road closures last week due to taxi drivers blocking most major roads in most large cities) I would not want to be out and about as a foreigner. From what I've heard, most travelers are zipping through Nica in a few days and then slowing the pace once they hit Costa Rica.
