Thanks for the advice. Usually I like to get myself in prison in every country I visit, however thanks to your useful link I will avoid it on any upcoming trips to Brazil.

Some places run tours ... mostly to decommissioned if not old ... jails. I suppose each country has differences in their jails ... don't know - not something I have stored in memory ... now supermarket differences I know a little about.

Several Brazilian prisons, especially Alcacuz, according to various recent media reports, are out of control. This is not funny. Much has to do with the economics of prison and rival gangs interred in the same prison. It is deadly serious and risking an arrest in Brazil is now very much more dangerous.
