Troubles in cordoba, argentina
Due some tensions between farmers and government, (farmers claim tax are so high), some routes are shut down for local mobs.
You can expect troubles specially in Cordoba in this points: Route 9 between Cordoba city and villa maria, close to Toledo Route 36 close to Almafuerte Route 7 at south Subfluvial channel between santa fe and parana (santa Fe province) Route 2 close to Chascomus (Bs As province) At this moment (3/19) have a lot of routes shut down around that province. This weekend is holy week down there so traffic in all routes could be very high, take care or avoid travel until next monday when all protest suppose to end. :cool4::cool4::cool4: |
Thank you.
I can't tell you how much I prefer to learn of these things on the Net rather than.....The Hard Way. |
UPDATE: Situation in argentina
..From more than 10 days farmers are sustained a fight with government about taxes.
As part this fight mobs close important routes around all country. At today 3/26, situation looks slightly worst than past week. Mostly roads cut are centered in Santa Fe, Cordoba and Buenos Aires provice. Mobs looks no-violent for now but a couple fight happened yesterday for people tried to cut the blockade. Again my suggestion is keep away routes for now or if you headed Tierra del Fuego, go as south as possible by Chile. Patagonia looks OK for now, no protest or mobs in routes. :cool4::cool4::cool4: |
Here's some background to the problem

Buenos Aires sinks into chaos
With the farmers strike now in its 3rd week, food shortages are becoming a serious concern. Meat (beef, pork and chicken), milk products, and fresh produce are becoming scarce. As the situation worsens, the residents of BA are running around the streets in near panic, banging on pots and demanding action from the government.
We, the brave road-warriors, holed up, clinging to life at Dakar Motos, are wondering where our next asado is coming from. Oh...the horror! |
Don´t let Javier catch you guys eyeing up the cat!
The fish is really good here in Florianopolis .... stores are full, trucks are rolling on all the roads. cheers, |

Problems and shut dows could follow tomorrow, monday 3/31, be advice you can find complete close routes and very angry mobs. Avoid big routes in Cordoba (37 routes shut down), Buenos Aires, Santa Fe and La Pampa |
Argentina is like France
Here's another insight into this dispute, which gives some background about the bigger picture across the whole country:-
BBC NEWS | Programmes | From Our Own Correspondent | Argentina's beef with its farmers Interesting: this is the type of protest that could only happen in France, if it were to happen in Europe at all. |
Sorry Garrobito, it was an inside joke...We left the intrepid starving bunch at Dakar Motos a week or two before and Florianopolis is only a two day ride for that fast bunch(through Uruguay) we saw only minimal blockades, and had no trouble. There was a new temporary blockade at the Paysandu bridge but motos could get around it, but judging from the mood of Argentinian motorists it would not last long as they are angry enough about having to drive the extra 100kms up from Frey Bentos bridge...
The buquebus ferry to Montivideo is doing a roaring business...Cheers |
Well, if you can't starve em out, smoke'em out. The farmers have managed to engulf Buenos Aires in smoke with fires set to clear farmland.
The air here is making Beijing's air look positively healthy. http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...ermoafp466.jpg |
I rode through Cordoba a few days ago and had no problems at all.
The television this morning had the smoke and fog on the news. They said in some places visibility was 5 meters. I am in Ushuaia now and probably heading toward BA tomorow. Should be there in 3-4 days. If anyone wants some beer... |
