after you cross the border, you'll have a choice of toll(fee),or libre(free) roads to choose from. The toll roads are much faster, and well maintained. The free roads are slower, but they pass thru every village.I always take the free roads whenever I have a choice.Mexico is a huge country with an incredible diversity in climate, topography, and cultures. Many Mexicans speak Spanish as a second,or third language(you will hear Mayan, and other indigenous languages in some regions). The climate ranges from hot desert to tropical rainforest.I prefer the south central state of Chiapas, and The Yucatan area.Give yourself enough time to really enjoy the experience(2-4 weeks min.).The best food can be found in the roadside stalls, and the food carts.Enjoy.

Have a look at our site www.vamumansu.blogspot.com
We just returned from crossing mexico ( Brownsville to yucatan and departuring via Belize, on our way to Argentina (Ushuaia) then Rio de Janeiro.

The best part of Mexico in our opinion is Yucatan Peninsula. Do not miss Palenque and Chichen Itzá Mayan Ruins.
If you go on the free roads, be careful with dogs, potholes , drunken people. If you go on the toll, prepare your wallet, but you can go much faster.

Have a fun trip

One thing to keep in mind if you decide that you want to travel faster. TOPES when you see a sign like this you may want to get on the brake as these are speed bumps with attitude.

Have fun

Rick
