hi,
I am in zimbabwe..on my way to Cape Town...looking for an alternative route to home (Italy)...trough Zaire and Congo...or Angola. has anybody good news? Nicola |
I travelled south in Nov.-Dec. 2000 from Gabon through Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) to Pointe-Noire, then over to Cabinda (Angola) then by Angolan coastal ship down to Luanda, and Namibe, then overland to Namibia. You can do the trip in reverse. Get your visas in Pretoria or Windhoek. Since they settled their dispute in Angola, it should be even easier now. Forget Congo (Kinshasa). Still a can of worms.

Hi Warner,
I got a visa for DR Congo in Zimbabwe. The ambassador said me that the situation is ok in DRC...but I am not sure!!!! I want to tray that way. Nicola |
Dear Chiacchio,
You want to try DR Congo? Good for you. I also had a visa for the DRC. Got it here in Canada. The trouble is, as I see it, the government is in control only in and around Kinshasa. If they give you a travel permit, it will be worthless as soon as you get out of town. They also have a law that specifies that you have to change all foreign money to their currency three days after arrival. They promise to change it back when you leave. Do you want to believe this? But one of us has to be the first to try. Good luck. Keep us posted. |
Werner,
Hi there, just curious about Angola, what was your reason in taking the coastal ships? Do you think it is possible to go over land all the way from Gabon to Namibia (and in a truck) Do you speak portugese??? and can you get away without???? cheers Bo |
