17 inch Tyre Availability - Asia
 

Hi all,

Presently in central Turkey heading east. But I am worried about the above for the rear of my Dommie. Ýn Greece Tenere's, Africa Twin's & the like were everywhere but here all Ý see are 30+ year old Jawa's. So I consider chances of finding suitable tyres slim at best outside the really big cities.

I gather 21 inch fronts should be O.K to find most places, but should I go to Ankara & buy a spare 17 inch rear or are there places further east people can recommend to obtain these?

I will be riding to Ýndia from here.

I would get a spare i turkey, in Iran and Pakistan there is only 125cc mopeds. I heard there should be a BMW dealer i Teheran, but better safe than sorry. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

Take the spare with you.
We bought a 100/90-19 in Islamabad but it was not easy to track down and already the tyre is showing faults. We also needed a 170/80-15 for each bike and had to wait to get to Ankara to get them. India may not have what you want either. Tyres are easy to get in Thailand though.

Yes rubber is a problem. Even in Ankara (pop. 3m). Bikeshop (Moto Art in the Yeniþehir district - Mr Selim Kaynak very helpful English speaker ph: 0312 4450330 or 4464138 or 4464139) had to order from Ýstanbul distributor. As he said economic conditions mean little stock held & also due to the time of year little demand.

I have a Honda Transalp and have spent nearly a year in India Iran and Pakistan. Nowhere can you find a 17 rear tyre.Although there are people who will import one from Bangkok for you.

They are hard to find in India.

Buy a bigger horn, maybe a compressor horn !

unbelievably we found a 21 inch front for 2 dommies in gilgit north pakistan (old but reasonable tires are still in a hotel up there if ya need them and can dodge the armed men) and 2 17 inch korean tyres in peshawar, But like i said we were lucky.
