Abandoning a bike

I'd love to ride my S-10 back to Panama, this time to jump the gap.

The issue is the time and expense to ride back after Ushuaia.

Picking up a decent DR or KLR for $2500 - 3k is pretty easy.

I imagine some one might buy it from you for cheap but if all else fails.....
drive to the airport, park the bike w/ the title tucked in somewhere and walk away.

May have issues re entering Argentina? if you wanted to that is.

Any experiences from anyone? Thanks

Best to do it legally.

Ask the officials - customs. Do this before you start to travel ... NOT at the boarder! If you have to ask while travelling .. ask AFTER your in the country. Giving the bike to a charity might be possible and could be better viewed by any official who comes across it.

Not sure how it would or could be done but IMO, donating your bike to charity is a very good idea. But I wonder if Aduana would allow it?? I think NOT. They will want a MOUND of paperwork ... and their "Cut". :oops2:

Probably easier just to sell it cheap to local bike shop or other enterprising individual who can somehow make it legal, or break it down for parts.

Folks there have all sort of ways to get round the regs. When you have a 100% to 400% import tax it forces citizens into all sorts of "creative" ways to get a vehicle on the road. :innocent:

This was our solution one time.
Bloke had a broken shoulder so couldn't ride it anyway.
We limped on to the border on my bike, had a few hours grief and were let go.

I left one in Azerbaijan but with some local assistance cleared it with customs and left it at the port in Baku, a customs officer said he might take it home and try to fix it so I gave him the key.
