Augrabies Falls S. Africa
I'm hoping to include Augrabies Falls in the Northern Cape on my upcoming trip to Namibia from CPT. I'm haing trouble getting information about accommodation in the area (ideally I'd like to stay in the park as time is an issue) and indeed whether it is possible to visit the park at all on a motorcycle. The park's website says no bikes, but it is included in some rental itineraries so there must be a way. The guy who is renting me my bike has got the hump slightly because I'm booking my own accommodation so isn't helping much. Anyone been there?

Yip, been there!
Took a day trip from Uppington while waiting for my father to come out of the hospital with his broken leg!
We were on two bikes and went into the main falls area. So we entered the main gates on motorcycles. There were chalets and a campsite. i am sure that the campsite will always have space. Some parks let you into the main camp area but will not allow you into the game area on motorcycles. uppington has a large campsite if you have no luck. Phone Augrabies? I would spend as much time in Namibia as possible. Augrabies is nice but not as nice as what you will see in Nam. You cant get into Etosha on a bike! cheers |
Thanks for the info! Augrabies is only really an overnight (Tulbagh, Calvinia, Augrabies on the way up from CPT) - quick look at the falls before we head into Namibia. Maybe the no go area is over the other side of the Orange river- wouldn't want to face off a rhino, even on a 1200 GS!

GREAT place!
Great place to stay!
For anyone visiting the falls at Augrabies, here is a great place to stay: Vergelegen Guesthouse in Kakamas. ::::Welcome to Vergelegen:::: I met a South African tour-guide who told me about the place. The owner, Niel Steenekamp, likes bikes. He offered to let me store my bike in the garage but I felt the bike was fine in the secure parking lot. The place has a great restaurant and a swanky bar you'd expect to find in New York or London (dress very casual!)- kinda wierd in Kakamas, but really enjoyable after beating around the Great Karoo for the past week. They charge around 30usd. Really nice place. __________________ "And I think to myself, what a wonderful world..." L.B. Armstrong. Home |
Cheers for the pointer, Hook. I'll check that place out too.
