I am planning a trip next year leaving from the UK heading east hopefully through Turkey, the Stans, Russia, Mongolia then over to the USA and running the TAT west to east taking 6 months in total. My current bike has almost 80,000 km on it and will need to be replaced before the trip.

I am tossing up buying and setting up my bike in Australia and shipping it over ready to start or buying one in the UK and setting it up in a short timeframe.

Wondering if anyone has had experience and can help with the questions below

1. Aussie registering a vehicle in the UK and leaving the country with it
2. Crossing borders in a vehicle with a different country of origin to my own personal paperwork
3. Potentially selling a UK registered bike in the USA at the end of the trip
4. Any other issues people have had starting a trip this way.

I will also need to come to terms with trusting a bike I have not had a chance to do a shakedown run on before the trip but the cost savings are considerable.

Yes possible to buy a bike in the UK and tour around, keep good paperwork.

Shake down run = around the UK.

Selling a UK bike in USA ... similar to selling a UK bike in OZ .. various legal things .. import duty, compliance with regulations .. migth be better off selling it as a wreck.
