Catalytic Converters, Leaded Petrol & Iran

Hi,

Have searched a bit but can't find any recent information, if I am missing a thread or article please point me in the correct direction.

I have read about the unavailability of unleaded fuel in Iran (and the problems this can cause the cat converters) but every thing is a few years out of date, can anyone who has ridden through Iran recently confirm that unleaded is not available?

I have also read about a lot of people removing their catalytic converters to save weight and improve power. How do people feel about pumping unnecessary crap out into the air in the name of weight saving & power improvement. We might be driving through countries where a lot of vehicles don't have cat converters but surely if we can afford bikes with them fitted as standard and unleaded petrol is available we should leave them on?
