Chain set needed in Ulan-Baatar
Hi everyone,
My chain is skipping  as I ride through Mongolia and I will (hopefully) get into Ulan-Baatar in 2 days. Does anyone know if I can get a chain set (even a mildly worn one will do :thumbup1:) in Ulan-Baatar? Maybe someone keeping spare parts in UB for later or from a crashed bike? Or any shop that could have one? My chain is a 520 Regina, sprockets 15/45 teeth. Thanks in advance for any information you can give. Nacho My Long Voyage |
Hey Nacho,
ask for it at Oasis, i'm pretty sure one of the 3 contacts on "the list" will have one. at least the chain, i needed a 525, noone had it, but 520 should be okay (Steppenfuchs Reisen uses that chain for their own bikes i believe). Not sure for the sprockets though... Good luck Moritz |

On a side note, it's freaking snowing where I am right now (Bayankhongor) and with the state of my sprockets, I can't afford to ride in the mud so I may probably have to truck the bike to UB. |
Hey Nacho,
just found the contact of Vait from Steppenfuchs Travel, write him an email about your chain details: info ääät mongolei düüüt com Also tell him how many Links the chain should have. And if you find a dry comfy place count the links yourself, don't rely on your maintenance book if you have one. I did that, bought a chain in Bishkek, shortened it to 110 links which my book says, just to find out at UB that i needed 118 links :/ Looks like you are on the southern route, not sure where the tarmac starts over there, but keep in mind there should be a few hundred km of perfect tarmac before UB. Weatherforecast on your way for the next 4 days is SUN SUN SUN, hope that's true! Cheers Moritz |
Oh, good tip about the number of links. My book says 110 too.
Thanks for the contact, I will send him an email. Meanwhile Sibylle from Oasis has sent me an email saying that I may be able to get one in UB not far from the Oasis. |
