Cockroach in my helmet...

Any tips on cockroach removal from a bike helmet? It just runs into one of the vent holes each time I try and get it out. Synchrotec II, so no removable lining.

A bit annoying cause it runs all over the top of my head when I'm riding!

I hate the things as well.

cheers,
Doug

how about...

stick the helmet in a freezer (in a plastic bag)... might cause the 'roach to go into hibernation and then you can get it out ?

can't you crush it in the lining? Bit messy but it'll kill the bugger

Have you considered getting an attractive young 'roach of the opposite sex attired in something flimsy and seductive (black lace works for me) to tempt it out?

Good luck

Put the whole helmet in a bucket full of water - the roach isn't dumb enough to drown and should head for the surface.

Gipper 27 Mar 2005 16:49

Hey John - they will start a family in the helmet !!!
If you dont want to get your helmet lining wet you could try putting an empty can next to it at night with a piece of thet lovely sweet Ghanain bread at the bottom, then coat the inside top of the tin withpetroleum jelly or something nice and sticky so it cant get out.
Failing that id dunk the sucker like Grant suggests.

I think the bucket of water is what I'll do.

Jeez, can you imagine. Riding along (miles from a bucket of water) and all these baby roaches start running around inside your lid!

thanks,
Doug

Be sure to remove your helmet before you put it in the bucket of water.

John Roberts 30 Mar 2005 01:48

And if you use the helmet again before the dunk then do remember to use your earplugs or you might have to end up dunking your head instead.

Must be great to have lots of helpful and concerned friends like wot we are.

The water worked. But it wouldn't flush out, had to leave the helmet full of water for a while before it decided to leave.

cheers,

aah yes,

That would be the Ghanian lesser spotted aquatic cockroach.
Apparently they can even survive brief periods in the vacuum of space

Well, this discussion reminds me of why we are all here... if this was some snob BMW owners club thing, the replies would have been something like: COCKROACHES!!! Oh my GOD!!!! Burn that helmet and get the brand new ultralight, super silent and very expensive new System 5.
