Confessions of an incompetent mechanic.
Following on from a previous thread I posted, I have drilled the holes in my touratech boxes so that I missed the welds - I think you know where this is heading! I strapped the first box to the frame so I could judge the position, it looked O.K. so I went ahead and drilled the holes through the template. No problem, fitted perfectly. Second box, didn't bother to check the position on the bike since the bike was placed close to the wall and I couldn't be bother to move it. So stuck the template in the same position as the first and drilled away. Whoops, since the positioning of the pucks are off-centre, the second box hole locations needed to be the reverse of the first - Doh! . Fortunately they are only out of line by about 20mm and if any smartarse points it out I shall say that it's necessary in order to facilitate filling my dakar with petrol.
So, once you have finished sniggering at my incompetence, please feel free to share your own moments of biking/4x4 mechanical or otherwise incompetence. The confessional is now open. |
I'll just give it a pinch more.....
Changed the oil and filter on an old Suzuki, got out the torque wrench, tightened up the sump plug to the correct torque, everything seemed okay ....except I think.......that's not very tight.........give it a bit of a tweek....oh s++t....there go the threads.
I know, I know.....trust the torque wrench e.t.c. 30 minute job takes a day and a haly of messing getting it re-tapped as pan was too thin for a helicoil. Roger. |
