Camp VC would be a good place to look if you're a new rider / first time offroader (it's also great fun).

There are men who are good at teaching women too - I never had a bad experience with trials tuition despite often being the only woman around (unlike enduro riders, where I had some impatience and was encouraged to just "send it" without elaboration), I guess because it's the least aggressive motorsport there is, despite being the best way to learn off road skills.
