Getting from Jordan to Turkey by Road
Hello everyone
I am currently on a bike trip from south africa to germany via the east african coast and the middle east. I am currently in Jordan and Due to some issues that I had in Israel I can no longer go back there. Does anyone have any idea on how to get from Jordan to Turkey by road? I thought that Saudi Arabia kuwait and Iran might be an option but sofar I havent managed to get a transit visa for saudi yet and now I am thiunking of maybe going from Jordan to Iraq and then up north to turkey. Is this a bad idea or would it be possible? SSyria might also be an option but apparently it is looking quite bad over there at the moment. Please help, any advise is appreciated. |
Syria I wouldn't even think about now.
Northern Iraq seems to be do-able, but are areas close to Jordan & Syria also, I don't know, but frankly I´d be surprised if they´re safe. Hopefully someone has more info on that situation. edit. I just checked my country´s (Finnish) foreign ministry´s travel advisory on Iraq. And it says they recommend to stay completely out of Iraq, except the northern provinces of Dohuk, Erbil and Suleimania. (And even those provinces, they don´t recommend to travel to, unless it is absolutely necessary). They always err on the side of caution of course, but the advice to stay out of an area completely is usually there for a good reason. |
i don't think that Syria will be an option
and you may check with your embassy about Iraq as i remember very well that they caught 3 Russian bikers an arrested them accusing them they were spying !!!! i think the best option is a ferry from Israel Italy or from Egypt to Turkey good luck |
Best way is to go to Egypt and then take a ferry to Iskenderun - Turkey,
forget about Iraq and Syria, Saudi Arabia kuwait and Iran is an option but I think it will be boring at Saudi and Kuwait, and it will take about 4k or 5k kilometres for you.. |
Definitely Egypt Alexandria to Turkey by ferry... No other way is sensible...

Suspect I'm too late for advice, but suggest flying to Turkey if that is where you really want to go. Ferry from Aqaba to Egypt is easy enough, but the road trip from eastern Egypt to Alexandria is dodgy with reports of several foreigners being kidnaped or killed in the last 6 months while travelling through the Sinai. good luck
