getting rid of a bike ?
Hi!
Me and my girlfriend are traveling down from Uganda to South Africa on small 100cc bikes we bought in Uganda. We were wondering if anybody here has done anything similar and has tips on how to get rid of the bikes. We bought them used and they were really cheap so our intension is not to sell them and get money for them we just need some way to get rid of them and get the bikes of our names. -Fernando |

If not, just give them away to someone deserving with all the paperwork ad leg it. If it's on a Carnet, DO NOT as you will be screwed without the exit stamp. If you are on a carnet, cross into Rwanda or Kenya and get a temporary import and keep the carnet in your pocket. |
There must be any number of charities which would accept them; find one that can deal with your carnet issues

We do not have a carnet. We are just getting temporary import permits in each country.
When we left Uganda we got a document that allows the bikes to be 3 months out of the country. We know that if the bikes come to Uganda after that time we would probably have to pay a small fine. But we are not sure if there are any consequences if the bikes donĀ“t come back at all... We have already thought about giving the bikes to charity, but we thought that if we did so we would probably still have to pay import taxes. Do you guys know how that works ? |
