Guatemala visa information
Looking for information on the visa setup for Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua it is called a C4 and gives 90 days ot travel through the 4 countries. We would to spend more time there what are our options? We though we would renew our Mexican paperwork there. Maybe spend a few days/weeks in Guatemala and the head back to Mexico for a few months before slowly working our way south again. We have no timetable and are looking for as long a visa as possible in each country.

Been living in Guatemala for two years now and my fellow boaters down here still debate the rules. What is confusing is what people sometimes get away with and what should be done to stay 100% legal. The wrong immigration official "can" make your life miserable.
It is my understanding that the wording in the C4 treaty states you have to be OUT OF THE C4 for 72 hours when your 90 day visa expires. We can talk for hours about what people have gotten away with or what so and so does but I prefer to be legal instead of lucky in this regard. With my wife and another friend or two it is our practice to ride our motorcycles to Mexico. Customs and immigration will tell you the town you can go to "without" importing your vehicle and as a rule that is where we have been going. Two nights in a hotel and back we come. That shows up as 72 hrs in your passport. The day you entered, the day you stay, the day you leave. The same could be accomplished going to Belize or ANY country outside the C4. That is how to stay 100% legal in the C4 and not get hassled as you travel around the C4 countries. Having said that I am also aware of what people get away with. I don't really want to have that discusion. Hope that was of some help |
you could start from mexico into guat, then shoot over to belize for a few days. head back to guat and go straight to honduras. tour around honduras and el salvador for 2 months. then head to nicaragua until say the 88th day from re-entry into guat, then jump into costa rica for a few days. you can then re-enter nicaragua and spend as much time as necessary, which would depend on where you plan to actually exit the ca4 permanently.

Thanks
Thanks for all the info got some info from the embassies still a bit confusing but we will make sure to give ourselves plenty of time to cross through and renew as needed.

It's also possible to extend the visa and the TVIP for your vehicle in Guatemala City. We did exactly that and fully documented the procedure, incl. costs, timescales and GPS coordinates of offices etc etc here Border Crossing: Mexico to Guatemala - Updated 18th March 2016 - Two Brits and a Triumph Tiger 800 Round The World
Hope this helps in some way. Saludos Steve and Janette Tiger 800 RTW - Two Brits and a Triumph Tiger 800 Round The World |
