Hints and Tips for biking south India

Hey Hubb,

My girlfriend and I are heading off to India for a couple of months and our plan is to either hire or rent a bike (possibly an Enfield) in Goa and head south to explore Kerala.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips about if its better to buy or rent, prices at the moment and if it will be more expensive in Goa than somewhere else? And of course any suggestions on where to head in Kerala, neither of us have been there before!

Thanks a lot,
Daniel

I would recommend heading up into the Western Ghats to Madikeri, Mysore, Maderai and Ooty, some great scenery and biking roads up there. Head south through the hills and back up the coast or vice versa.

I am aware that some Goa bike hire outfits are not happy for you to take bikes out of Goa. It might be worth making that point very clear in your negotiations right at the start.
