The bicycle trip was one of the best experiences we've ever had. It is hard work, and sometimes you get fed up, but its all worth it. |
Ted,
I´ve always felt that my forthcoming ADV trip around Latin America is a sort of precusor to doing a long overland trip by bicycle. I suppose both pose their own risks and challenges, but to me doing it by moto, even small capacity bikes, alway seemed much easier. I quite fancy circumventing India on a bicycle, as accommodation can be found practically everywhere in that country for a foreigner with either a big smile or couple of quid - no need to cart around tent, stove, and all that crap. Hmmm, think I´ll add that to my list! I love motos and can´t see myself ever not having one, but overlanding is all about the adventures in far off places more than anything else. The lightness and absolute simplicity, and ability to just lift it over fences, stick it on the top of a bus, etc, must be such a great sense of freedom compared to a filthy great motorcycle. I once met a bloke who did Seatle to Oaxaca in Mexico on a fold up bike, he´d just stowe it away on long boring stretches, only riding the bits he fancied. For me, it´s all about pushing the boat out, little by little. Those guys who go RTW on Honda C90´s just crack me up, I´d well rather that than on a GS1200. Did you decide what to do yet by the way? :funmeterno: rtw |

Too many great options... Too early to decide... Anything could happen... :thumbup1: |
Well Ted all i can say is fXXk that , push bikes make motorbikes look positively safe :ban:
Am monitoring your posts mate from afar , well Gatwick anyway ................ if you fancy some company where ever you start especially if it involves m/c s of any size then im your man , especially as im going to have a large publically funded lump sum burning a hole in my pocket pretty soon :DHowever i may have to draw a line at Harxxy Davidsxxx :innocent: |

HARLEY'S............. You must be joking. Nothing but air cooled Honda's in my arsenal. |
Balls in your court mate ...................... am up for pretty much anything two wheel wise , but prefer to be in a truck / tank / large bus if its India :scooter:

For what its worth Ted , I interviewed Hells Llamas on bikerfm last night they were back packing around southern america using various forms of transport in the end they bought cheap local bikes (new £400) and they said it extended there trip massively as they were so much cheaper than using buses etc . Think there is a link on the bikerfm FB page if you want to give them a shout , they have lots of info , by the way i think they got back half the money when they sold them as well.

on the other hand...
Ted, how about you spend 1k on a holiday then put the remaining 9 on a deposit for a studio.... which could provide rental $ in the future.
Or is that just too boring? ;0) |
You´d be pushing the boat out now for a BTL, as it would seem that Mr Osbourne´s housing bubble is seriously close to blursting, so a bad idea unless unless in London/SE, and then 9k would get you a deposit to cohabit a dog kennel at the back of a tanning shop, alsatian included. Lastly, it´s BTL landlord and their lackies in government that are the reason that first time buyers can´t buy a home without getting bankrolled from M+D. Just saying like. :innocent:

Ted may I respectively suggest that you immediately relocate to Cluj in Romania , am currently over nighting here and if you like pony tails and slim attractive girls then it's the place for you , only downside are the drivers , they are kin awful and generally drive like txxts , still you can't have it all .
That said our two favourite girls have both been Hungarian , so scrub above and move to Budapest lol :scooter: |

Currently checking out krakow as a possible relocation spot for your next business opportunity :thumbup1: Yet again it's all tight jeans and pony tails , not so many hookers here though !!!! Romania was knocking shop city , still if that's your bag ?? |
