Intercontinental Temporary Bike swap

Time and commitments prevent me from do a RTW trip in one hit, so over the next few years I am planning a few 1 and 2 month trips. I will be basing myself In Southern spain and from there doing Europe N-S and E-W , Africa N-S etc.

I also want to do Canada to the US/mexican border and back and a round Ausrailia trip A south American trip.... you get the Idea.

Last night whilst looking at Shipping costs to Oz and the US I had an Idea and i wonder if it is viable.

I am quite happy to lend my Bike (currently an LC4 Adventure) to someone who wants to do a Europe tour in return for them lending me their bike for a tour of the US/canada/OZ.

This would work a bit like some of the house swap schemes.

Obviously there are things like insurancce to be considered but i am sure it's possible.

Some ideas..

Bikes are collected fully serviced with new tyres and when you return them you replace the tyres and pay for a service.

Insurance must be fully comprehensive.

If there were a number of people insterested in a scheme like this vouchers could be issued whereby If you lend your bike out you recieve a voucher which can be used against any other members bike at a mutually convienient time.

Any thoughts???

have a look at the website.
www.bikeshareworld.com and also there is a forum just a bit below this one that deals with bike swapping too. There is another bike swapping group that has just started and is acvertising there. I am a member of BikeShare and have been for four years. I have had two swaps away and had five people borrow from me. Maybe the moderator will shift the whole thread there?

Kind regards
